Luke 8:40–48 CSB
40 When Jesus returned, the crowd welcomed him, for they were all expecting him. 41 Just then, a man named Jairus came. He was a leader of the synagogue. He fell down at Jesus’s feet and pleaded with him to come to his house, 42 because he had an only daughter about twelve years old, and she was dying. While he was going, the crowds were nearly crushing him. 43 A woman suffering from bleeding for twelve years, who had spent all she had on doctors and yet could not be healed by any, 44 approached from behind and touched the end of his robe. Instantly her bleeding stopped. 45 “Who touched me?” Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the crowds are hemming you in and pressing against you.” 46 “Someone did touch me,” said Jesus. “I know that power has gone out from me.” 47 When the woman saw that she was discovered, she came trembling and fell down before him. In the presence of all the people, she declared the reason she had touched him and how she was instantly healed. 48 “Daughter,” he said to her, “your faith has saved you. Go in peace.”

1. Miracles happen at the corner of Expectation and Reception

The crowd welcomed Jesus
The crowd was expecting Jesus
You can’t receive what God has for you if you do not expect to receive it
Expectation is to have a longing
You have to look forward to your miracle
However, expectation is the 1 step
The other is reception
You must be willing to receive the miracle
You must be willing to do whatever it takes to get your miracle
Her desperation, her determination, her deliverance

2. We must be desperate for a miracle

The woman had an issue (some translations)
She was bleeding for quite some time
She was bleeding for 12 years
A 12 year old girl was dying
She had an incurable sickness
She had spent all her money on physicians
She was ceremonially unclean
Physically desperate: her health was gone
Financially desperate: her money was gone
Spiritually desperate: she couldn’t enter the temple
Physically: we are ever moving toward death
Financially: money cannot buy what we need
Spiritually: our sin separates us from God
Be desperate for your miracle

3. You need determination to get your miracle

You must be consistent
You must persistent
You must show up
“Came from behind him, and touched the border of his garment”
Conditions to discourage her from coming to Jesus
The great crowd surrounding Him
The attitude of His disciples
The importance of His mission
Your appearance: pale, poor, pitiful
Still, she pressed through to Jesus
“If I can but touch His clothes”
Mark 5:28 NIV84
28 because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.”
Sometimes you must preach to yourself
You must encourage yourself to keep going
Be determined for your miracle

4. Don’t hide your Deliverance, Declare it to all

Her deliverance came from contact with Jesus
This was a touch of faith
She exercised greater faith than healthy ones around her
“Who touched me?” Sensitive to her touch
“Power has gone out of me”
Many surround Christ who do not touch Him
Her trembling … then her testimony
She told Him why she had touched Him
She declared to the crowd what had happened
In touching Jesus, she was able to touch others
Get your deliverance

5. Jesus has power over sicknesses and the human body

Press Through to Jesus
Come as you are with all your needs
Don’t pay attention to doubters or critics in the crowd
Don’t worry about the haters
This Woman Received More Than She Anticipated
She was healed from her illness
She became a child of God: “Daughter …” (v. 48)
Jesus Gives More Than We Ask or Think

20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,
If you don’t ask you don’t get
If you don’t seek you don’t find
If you don’t expect a miracle you will leave the way you came in
Jesus is Lord over all sicknesses, viruses, diseases
Jesus is Lord over all
Jesus is able
Touch the Lord of our lives and get your miracle
