I. When we stand in awe of the power and authority of God there is excitement and His fame spreads.

Mark 1:25–28 CSB
25 Jesus rebuked him saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!” 26 And the unclean spirit threw him into convulsions, shouted with a loud voice, and came out of him. 27 They were all amazed, and so they began to ask each other, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.” 28 At once the news about him spread throughout the entire vicinity of Galilee.

The excitement manifest itself and 3 ways

1. By his people it’s manifested as Ernest expectation and Joy that God is moving

- resulting in an increased passion to be part of His work.

2. To those that see they are in need both physically and spiritually - It manifest as hope

- Often resulting in humility and salvation

3. To the(prideful) unregenerate, religious, and rebellious - fear and anger

- resulting in hardened hearts/ fighting for the enemy in an effort to stop what they don’t desire or understand.

But none the less....

When God displays His power and authority nothing will stay the same.

Application: Which one are you?

Trans: Today we are going to look at the awesome power of the savior

II. Jesus Has authority and power over sickness

Luke 4:38–39 CSB
38 After he left the synagogue, he entered Simon’s house. Simon’s mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked him about her. 39 So he stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up immediately and began to serve them.
A. Peter’s Mother- in-law.
1. Peter was a married man and most likely one of the eldest of Jesus’ twelve disciples
2. The healing was instantaneous.
3. Peter’s mother-in-law used her healing as an opportunity to serve. Luke 4:39
a. So many of those that came to Jesus to be healed were not there to be a part of His kingdom work, but rather they wanted their burdens to be maid light as they continued on in life.
b. How often do are answered prayers result in this type of immediate transformation?

- If we have been made whole physically or spiritually, then that power should remain evident in our lives.

B. Jesus performs healings publicly.
1. We see that many physical ailments were simply physical in nature
2. We see that many physical ailments were actually spiritual problems.

III. Jesus Has authority and power over the Enemy

Luke 4:40–41 CSB
40 When the sun was setting, all those who had anyone sick with various diseases brought them to him. As he laid his hands on each one of them, he healed them. 41 Also, demons were coming out of many, shouting and saying, “You are the Son of God!” But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew he was the Messiah.
A. Jesus has the power to command Demons
B. Jesus has the power to silence the enemy

IV. Jesus takes the time to pray.

Mark 1:35 CSB
35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he got up, went out, and made his way to a deserted place; and there he was praying.

To continually live, serve, and love like Jesus you will need the power of prayer.

- If your service is lacking passion - It’s directly tied to Prayer life
- If sin is creeping back into your life - It’s directly tied to your Prayer life
- If you find yourself focusing more on the object of your fears than the Power of God - It’s related to your prayer life.
- If you find that the pattern of your life is more focused on the temporal than on the eternal - It’s directly related to your prayer life.
Prayer is how we communicated with God and how God communicates with us. It is our source of strength for the mission.

V. Jesus mission continues with the Power of Prayer.

Mark 1:36–39 CSB
36 Simon and his companions searched for him, 37 and when they found him they said, “Everyone is looking for you.” 38 And he said to them, “Let’s go on to the neighboring villages so that I may preach there too. This is why I have come.” 39 He went into all of Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.

Application: Do you see this same mission as your own?
