Persuaded – (Missions emphasis, Janie Chapmen State Missions)
I preached on choosing Love. I preached on God’s love drawing us to Him. I preached on the love demonstrated through the Gospel.
Today I want to examine whether or not you are persuaded of that love, among other things.
Romans 8:38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
That’s faith right there. That’s believing in God and all of His promises. Do you have it? Are you persuaded of that? Are you even persuaded of God’s love?
What is it that you are persuaded of?
Persuaded means convinced, to have a wholehearted belief in.
1. Matthew 27:20 But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus. Has Satan persuaded you that a life of sin is better than a life of holiness? Have you chosen a murderer and a thief over a Lord and Saviour?
2. Luke 16:31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. (Jesus in the parable of the rich man and Lazurus). Indeed one has been raised from the dead, and His name is Jesus. Are you persuaded?
3. Luke 20:6 But and if we say, Of men; all the people will stone us: for they be persuaded that John was a prophet. How is it they could be persuaded John was a prophet but miss that Jesus was so much more? Having eyes, they could not see.
o Jesus addressed this in Matthew 13:1-16
o What are you persuaded of? Was Jesus just a prophet or is He God the Son?
4. Acts 13:43 Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God. This is still a problem today. People are more persuaded that they must earn their way into heaven by being good rather than being persuaded of the grace of God.
o David says he confessed his transgressions to the LORD and that the LORD forgave him. (Psalm 32:5)
o 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
o That’s God’s grace! Are you persuaded of it?
5. Acts 14:19 And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead. These persuaded people NOT to believe in the Christ. We do the same thing today by how we live out our so-called Christian life. People are watching and they are persuaded.
o Many are persuaded that if that’s Christianity, they don’t need it.
6. Acts 18:4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks. Here’s a good question. Are you persuaded enough to try and convince someone of what you believe in?
7. Acts 19:26 Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands: Paul was persuaded that he had been commissioned of God to go into all the world and make disciple. How about you? We too have been commissioned. Are you even persuaded enough to go across the street?
8. Acts 21:14 And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be done. (Paul was determined to go to Rome.) Are you so persuaded of the gospel of Jesus Christ and even of the Word of God that no well speaking, knowledge filled, trickster of the devil could convince you otherwise?
9. Acts 26:26 For the king knoweth of these things, before whom also I speak freely: for I am persuaded that none of these things are hidden from him; for this thing was not done in a corner. Here, Paul was speaking truth, King Agrippa would have been well aware of the event surrounding the life of Christ as well as the thing spoken of by the prophets. Where we make a mistake is in being persuaded that everyone (or even a particular someone) has heard the gospel – meaning there is no reason for us to attempt to tell someone.
10. Acts 26:28 Then Agrippa said unto, Almost thou persuades me to be a Christian. One of the worst thing that could happen to a person is to be almost persuaded.
11. Romans 4:21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. Are you persuaded of that? Do you even understand what it is that HE promised?
12. Romans 14:5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. This one gets me because I believe the Lord’s Day is the most important day of the week. I believe it’s a holy day and should be treated as such. I also believe you should be in Church every Sunday if only that you might be persuaded of all these things. The word of God says Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. I am called to present to you the Gospel of Jesus Christ, period. The persuading is between you and Holy Spirit.
13. Romans 14:14 I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean. Here is more of the same from Romans 14:5 – What has the Lord persuaded you of? Should you be in church? Is smoking a sin? Is drinking a sin? Is fornication, adultery, murder, lying all sin? Obviously, some of these are well spelled out in the Bible but, what of those that are not. What has the Lord Jesus persuaded you of? Has He placed you under conviction over some matter?
14. Romans 15:14 And I myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that ye also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another. I too am persuaded that many of you are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another. But I am also persuaded that many of you only have a head knowledge of God and no real heart knowledge. Having eyes, you do not see, and ears, you do not hear, and being persuaded by Satan that you are okay in God’s eyes.
15. 2 Timothy 1:5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. Is anyone you know convinced that you are a Christian? Do you possess an unfeigned faith (even of your grandmother)?
16. 2 Timothy 1:12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. Oh, but what is it that you have committed to Him? Your life: One day a week: An hour of prayer?
17. Hebrews 6:9 But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak. Is anyone persuaded that you too can bear something other than thorns and briers. Better still, is there someone of whom you are persuaded of this enough to travail over them in prayer? (Clarity is seen in 6:8).
18. Hebrews 11:13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. How about you, are you persuaded of the promises of God? Do you even know the promises of God? (Similar to #10, Romans 4:21).
o Can you go through life believing that Jesus will come back one day, even if you don’t live to see it?
Are you persuaded of 1 Corinthians 15:1-4? Are you persuaded that HE was crucified, dead, buried, and rose again on the third day, according to the Scriptures?
Are you persuaded of John 3:16-19? Persuaded that GOD loved you enough to die for you; to exchange His life for yours.
Are you persuaded that if you died today you would be in heaven before the world knew you were dead?
What is it that you are truly persuaded of?
Perhaps today your day of salvation.
Are you persuaded to make a decision for Christ today?
Perhaps today is a day of rededication for you.
Are you persuaded to make Him Lord of your life?
What is it that you are persuaded of?
