Call to Worship- Psalm 51:10
10 Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
Text- Romans 12;1-2 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

LAST WEEK WE BEGAN OUR SERIRES, “ HOW TO LIVE THE CHRISTIAN LIFE”
WE READ CHPTER 6 IN LUKE FROM THE SERMON ON THE PLAIN WHEN JESUS INSTRUCTS US TO BE WISE AND NOT FOOLISH.
THE WISE BUILD THEIR HOUSE ON GOD WHEREAS THE FOOL B UILD ON THEMSELVES.
JESUS WENT TO SAY DON’T BE HYPOCRITE.
DON’T SAY ONE THING AND DO ANOTHER.
JESUS SAID WHEN WE BUILD OUR HOME ON HIM WE WILL HAVE A SECURE FOUNDATION

TITLE- HOW TO PLEASE GOD
A. WHAT DOES THIS TEXT SAY TO ME?
THE BOOK OF ROMANS WAS WRITTEN BY PAUL AFTER HIS THIRD MISSIONARY JOURNEY- ONE OF THE MAIN THEME OF ROMANS IS HOW TO PLEASE GOD
IN THIS OPENNING PASSAGE PAUL URGES, THE CHURCH AT ROME
HE DO ASK, HE DOES NOT DEMAND- HE URGES- AS TO SUGGEST – HE RECOMMENDS, HE ENCOURAGES, HE ADVISES THE PEOPLE WHO WHERE THE CHURCH IN ROME WHO HAVE ACCEPTED JESUS AS THEIR LORD AND SAVIOR THE BEGIN TO REHAPE THEIR THINKING AND THEIR BEHAVIOR.
OLD BEHAVIOR WILL NOT FIT INTO THEIR NEW LIFE WITH GODAND CHRIST.
OLD THOUGHTS WILL INTERFERE WITH KNOWNG GODS PLANS FOR YOUR LIFE.
PAUL SAYS, “ I URGE YOU BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN LIGHT OF GOD’S MERCY- OFFER YOUR SELVES TO GOD AS LIVING SACRAFICES. AS ONE WHO IS HOLY AND PLEASING TO GOD.”
THIS IS A CALL FOR ALL CHRISTIAN EVERYWHERE TO BE COMMITTED TO GOD THROUGH THEIR COMMITMENT TO JESUS CHRIST AND HIS TEACHINGS.
JAMES 1:22 Says, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
B. WHAT DOES THE TEXT SAY TO THE NEEDS OF The people IN OUR TIMES?
PEASING GOD IS MORE THAN GOING TO CHURCH, SINGING SOME SONGS, GETTING BAPTIZED, PREACHING READING MY BIBLE…
PLEASING GOD IS OFFERING ALL OF YOURSELF TO THE ONE AND ONLY LIVING GOD. THAT MEANS PUTTING GODS WILL BEFORE YOUR OWN AND FIND OUT WHAT PLEASES HIM.
WHEN IS THE LAST TIME YOU ASKED GOD, “ HOW CAN I PLEASE YOU TODAY?” DID YOU ASK HIM TODAY? MAYBE YOU SHOUKD ASK HIM TODAY IN THE QUIETNESS OF YOUR HEART. ( PAUSE)
PLEASING GOD MEANS LIVING YOUR LIFE WITH THE AWARENESS OF GOD AROUND YOU AND IN YOU AT ALLL TIMES.
IT MEANS GETTING TO KNOW HIS WORD AND HIS WILL FOR YOU LIFE.- THEN DOING WHAT HE SAYS.
C. What is bad news in the text-
IN ROMANS 13 PAUL WRITES,
Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness.
PLEASING GOD IN NOT ABOUT EARNING OR DESERVING
D. What is the bad news in our times?
WE DO NOT PLEASE GOD WHEN
WE ARE OFFER OURSLVES AS MANY HUMAN PASSIONS.
WE OUR CRUEL VILE WAYS.
MURDER RATE IS UP
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IS UP
CRUELTY AND MEANESS IS UP
CHILD ABUSE IS UP
· IF YOU ALWAYS THINK ABOUT STEALING. –YOU WILL STEAL
· IF YOU ALWAYS THINK LYING -YOU WILL LIE ABOUT KILLIG – YOU WILL KILL
IF YOU ALWAYS THINK ABOUT DRUGING AND DRINKING – YOU WILL ALWAYS GET HIGH AND STAY DRUNK
CHRIS ROCK SAID – IF YOUR FRIENDS ARE GOING TO THE CRACK AND YOU ARE GOING TO THE CHURCH HOUSE SOONER OR LATER
F. What is good news in the text-
PLEASING GOD IS ABOUT BELIEVNG AND RECIEVING
PAUL OFFER TELLS US THE WAY. IT START BY BECOMING TRANSFORMED
BY THE RENEWING OUR MINDS.

IF YOUR THOUGHTS ARE ON SHARING -THEN YOU WILL SHARE WITH OTHERS
IF YOUR THOUGHTS ARE ON CARING- COME ON -YOU GET THE POINT
G RELEVANT QUESTION –
a. WHY DO WE OFFER OURSELVES AS LIVING SACRIFICES UNTO GOD?
b.WHAT STEPS CAN WE TAKE TO BE PLEASING TO GOD?
H. ANS.- REMEMBER THAT YOUR BODY IS A TEMPLE. WITHIN THAT TEMPLE IS THE HOLY SPIRIRT.
GOD IS IN YOU AND YOU ARE IN GOD- THIS IS A GREAT MYSTERY
1 CORINTHIANS 6:19 TELLS US- 19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
b. I PROPOSE WE BEGIN BY RENEWING YOUR MIND BY POURING GODS WORD INTO IT. SHUT OFF OUR OLD SELF AND RESTART WITH OUR NEW SELF.
