I Shall Not Be Moved
Text: (Psalms 16:8)
8 I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
Introduction:
1). We need some folks like men of old how are willing to take a stand.
2). We need some men to stand up and lead their families.
3). We need some men to stand up and lead our churches.
4) We need some men to stand up and lead our country.
5). We need some men, like the men of old, with a backbone like a saw log.
6). We need some men and women this morning who will make up their mind.
(James 1:5-7)
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. 7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
* This world needs some people who will not be moved away from the Truth of God!
* We live in a time, like never before, that the truth of God is under attack by the liberals in government and by those who would pervert our churches and water down the Bible.
Listen to the words of:
1). Job (Job 13:15)
15 Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.
2). Joshua (Joshua 24:14-15)
14 Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.
15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD,
choose you this day whom ye will serve;
whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
3). David
8 I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
4). Paul (Acts 20:24)
24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
A warning to the Church: (Hebrews 2:1)
1 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.
There are some things that we can’t afford to be moved on this morning:
I. We need some people who refuse to be moved from the truth of God’s Word. (Genesis 3:1-4)
1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman,
Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
A. Doubting God’s word-the original sin. (Verse 3)
“Ye shall not surely die”
B. God’s Word is inspired by God. (II Peter 1:21)
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
C. God’s Word is perfect, without error. (Psalms 19:7-8)
7 The law of the LORD is perfect,
converting the soul:
the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. 8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.
D. God’s Word created the universe. (John 1:1-2)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 *All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
(Hebrews 11:3) Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God,
E. God’s Word is Powerful. (Hebrews 4:12)
12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
F. God’s Word is sufficient for man’s every need. (II Timothy 3:16)
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
G. God’s Word is precious. (Psalms 19:9-10)
9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
(Psalms 119:127-128)
127 Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold. 128 Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way.
H. God’s Word is what this world needs. (John 6:67-68)
67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? 68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
II. We need some people who have made their minds up that they will not be moved from the Power of the Blood.
A. Only the blood of Jesus power to cleanse from sin. (Isaiah 1:18)
18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
B. Only the Blood of Jesus has the power to satisfy a holy God. (Isaiah 64:6-7)
6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. 7 And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.
(I Peter 1:18-19)
18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot
III. We need some people who have made their minds up that they will not be moved from truth of the Resurrection.
* Turn with me now to (I John 4:1-3):
1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
A. Don’t believe everything you hear preached. (Verse 1-2)
1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
B. Those who preach that Jesus rose as a spirit are antichrists. (Verse 3)
3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
Turn with me now to (I Corinthians 15:12-19)
12 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: 14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. 15 Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not. 16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: 17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. 18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. 19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.
A. Some say there is not resurrection. (Verse 12)
12 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?
B. If there is no resurrection, the Christ did not rise. (Verse 12)
C. If there is no resurrection our preaching is vain. (Verse 14)
14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.
D. If there is no resurrection you are still in your sins. (Verse 17)
17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.
E. If there is no resurrection your loved ones have perished. Verse 18)
18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.
F. If there is- our religion makes us more miserable than the lost man. (Vs. 19)
19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.
IV. We need some people who will not be moved from the from the reality of Hell. (Luke 16:19-31)
* Turn with me now to (Luke 16:19-31)
19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: 20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, 21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house: 28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
A. These were real men, not a parable.
B. Death was a reality. (Verse 22)
“It came to pass that the beggar died”
B. Hell was a real place. (Verse 23)
“in Hell he lift up his eyes”
C. The torments were real. (Verse 23, 24)
“Being in torments”
D. There is real fire in Hell. (Verse 24)
“I am tormented in this flame”
E. Those in Hell have a real burden for others. (Verse 27)
27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house: 28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
Conclusion:
John 8:31–32 (KJV 1900)
31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
