Intro

Last week we were discussing the Glory of God. I would like to continue this week to take an even closer look at what Scripture has to say about this matter.
The Bible uses the word glory 402 times according to Strong’s Concordance. Not every one of those instances refers to the glory of God, sometimes there is reference to men glorying in themselves.
Matthew 6:2 NKJV
Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
The ESV renders this same word PRAISE.
You know, there is something about when someone is giving you praise. It makes you feel pretty good about yourself, like you must be doing something right for someone to notice and mention it to you.
Likewise, it can make us feel terrible when we go the extra mile and really put forth effort and nobody in the world notices at all.
I just wonder this morning if we do not give God the praise that is due His name if He feels any certain way about it.
Psalm 8:1–9 ESV
O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger. When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas. O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
·Man was created a little lower than God and was crowned with Glory and Honor
·Adam and Eve were clothed/ surrounded with the Glory of God
Genesis 3:6–11 ESV
So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths. And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?” And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.” He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?”
Before Adam sinned, He and his wife Eve walked around as God did- “Covered with God’s Glory”, now that Glory lifted from them
· A church that does not have the glory surrounding it is naked
· Churches are hiding them selves from the presence of God because they see their nakedness
God= Is Perfection covered by Glory, Man= Is Innocence covered by Glory
The thing was: Adam was more like God than he could comprehend.
He was made in the image and likeness of God, just a little lower (not a God, but Blessed of God above all the other creations
Isaiah saw a vision of God’s Glory -
Isaiah 6:1–3 ESV
In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!”

Defining Glory

· Glory [3519] kabowd (Heavy with everything good)
Glory—(Heb. kabhod; Gr. doxa). (1.) Abundance, wealth, treasure, and hence honour (Ps. 49:12); glory (Gen. 31:1; Matt. 4:8; Rev. 21:24, 26).
(2.) Honour, dignity (1 Kings 3:13; Heb. 2:7 1 Pet. 1:24); of God (Ps. 19:1; 29:1); of the mind or heart (Gen. 49:6; Ps. 7:5; Acts 2:46).
(3.) Splendour, brightness, majesty (Gen. 45:13; Isa. 4:5; Acts 22:11; 2 Cor. 3:7); of Jehovah (Isa. 59:19; 60:1; 2 Thess. 1:9).
(4.) The glorious moral attributes, the infinite perfections of God (Isa. 40:5; Acts 7:2; Rom. 1:23; 9:23; Eph. 1:12). Jesus is the “brightness of the Father’s glory” (Heb. 1:3; John 1:14; 2:11).
(5.) The bliss of heaven (Rom. 2:7, 10; 5:2; 8:18; Heb. 2:10; 1 Pet. 5:1, 10).
(6.) The phrase “Give glory to God” (Josh. 7:19; Jer. 13:16) is a Hebrew idiom meaning, “Confess your sins.” The words of the Jews to the blind man, “Give God the praise” (John 9:24), are an adjuration to confess. They are equivalent to, “Confess that you are an impostor,” “Give God the glory by speaking the truth;” for they denied that a miracle had been wrought.
Easton, M. G. (1893). In Easton’s Bible dictionary. New York: Harper & Brothers.
· I think what Isaiah saw in the vision was the “Essence of God”
A God of fire- shining with a brilliant light
Sin consumed by the Fire, and Goodness revealed in the Light
Isaiah saw Christ, the Brightness of God’s Glory
Hebrews 1:3 ESV
He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
Listen again to these facts-
In the beginning before God created the heaven and the earth- all there was------- was God,-------HIS GLORY
He filled the things He created with His Glory,
· Heaven was created first, then all the angels at one time
· And a voice was given to them to sing of God’s Glory
As God created the earth all the things upon it, His Glory filled the Earth
· At first, Adam and Eve- walked around in the glory
· They spoke with God who was Glory
· There tongues joined the heavenly host in praising God
The Lord’s Prayer reminds us of God’s glory being something that will NEVER end.
Matthew 6:9–13 NKJV
In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
God is Glory. Glory is the essence of God.
The Glory is (a sign of) HIS PRESENCE- (can be sensed, seen, and felt)
The Glory is the revealing / manifestation of God’s presence
Jesus says in Matthew of His Return
Matthew 16:27 ESV
For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done.
In the Glory of His Father
Even after all Christ has done, He still gives all glory and honor to the Father!
If we are to correctly glorify God, it has to be that we are honoring Him in all our ways. It is only then that God’s glory will rest upon us again as it did before the fall in the Garden of Eden.
Matthew 25:31 ESV
“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne.
Jesus is glorified and exalted by the Father because He honored and gave glory to the Father.
Look in Isaiah again with me-
Isaiah 40:5 ESV
And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
What we call anointing is- man being touched by God’s Glory

THE ANOINTING IS HIS POWER FLOWING

(Through people touched by the Glory of God)
Acts 1:8
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
· Power/Anointing is poured out from His Glory
· His Presence assures us His Anointing will flow
· If we know He is here, we know He wants to bless His people
You shall receive power- after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you.
· You shall be anointed- after that the Glory of God touches you.
· You shall be a vessel- so that the power of God can flow through you
You shall be a witness-
· Of God’s Glory- shining through you
· People will be saved- as you minister with the Holy Spirit
· People will be healed- as the Holy Spirit flows through you
In conclusion-
God has surrounded man with His Glory so we can shine for him!
Will you let His Glory fill your heart and mouth today?
Will you be used by Him in a greater way than ever before without any thought of what people think of you?
Your only thought being that you want to bring Glory to God alone.
