MISJUDGING JESUS (1): THE JEWS (Luke 22:63-71) September 17, 2017 1. Did the Jews in total reject Jesus? What about the great crowds that He attracted? Didn’t they accept Him? What was the issues around which rejection revolved? 2. Identify some of the ways in which the Jewish trial of Jesus was a miscarriage of justice. What was their ultimate charge against Him? Why did they find it such an offense? 3. Mt 26:60 informs us that many false witnesses came forward against Jesus. Who do you think they were? Why do you think they were ineffective? 4. In what sense does the Jewish trial of Jesus display the depravity of the human heart? 5. Jonathan Edwards once said that moral people “would kill God if they could get at him.” Why would that be true? Do you agree? 6. Why did the Jewish people reject Jesus as prophet? 7. Don’t people have a right to reject God if they ask a sign from Him and He doesn’t give one? 8. If Jesus is eventually going to rule the whole world – including the Romans(!), why didn’t He just do it right then as the Jewish people expected? 9. In what way does the story of David and Goliath in I Samuel 7 prefigure the life and death of Jesus Christ? 10. Why is it so important that Jesus was God as well as being a man? Why is it so important to accept that fact? 1
