Part 1: Sanctification 101

THE UPWARD CALL

1 Thess. 5:22-24

1 Thess. 5:23a, “May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless…”
1 Thess. 4:3a, “It is God’s will that you should be sanctified…”

Three Kinds of Spiritual People:

1.) Sinful Person.

Psalm 51:5, “Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.”
Ephesians 2:1-3, “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins...” “All of us also lived among them at one time...” “...like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath.”
1 Corinthians 2:14, “The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him…”
Jude 1:17-19

2.) Carnal Christian.

Revelation 3:20, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.”
Romans 7:21-24
1 Cor. 3:1-3, “Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual but as worldly - mere infants in Christ...You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly?”
James 4:1, “What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you?”

3.) Sanctified Christian.

Romans 6:11-14, “Count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires... Sin shall not be your master.”
Romans 7:24-25
Acts 8:14-16, “...When they arrived, they prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them; they had simply been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.”
