A CRITICAL COMPARISON
(2 Peter 1:5-9)

Peter makes a strong comparison with the life of a “useful” and “fruitful” Christian (1:8) and that of the false teachers that are leading people astray.

FRUITFUL or FALSE?

Christian Graces (1:5-7) False Teachers (2:12-22)
FAITH Slaves of corruption (2:19)
Forsakes the right way (2:15)
MORAL EXCELLENCE Eyes full of adultery that never cease from sin (2:11)
KNOWLEDGE No knowledge (2:12)
SELF-CONTROL Never cease from sin (2:14)Slave of corruption (2:19)
PERSERVERENCE Count it pleasure to revel in the daytime (2:13)
GODLINESS Love wages of unrighteousness (2:15)
BROTHERLY KINDNESS Entice unstable souls (2:14, 18) of those who barely escaped (new Christians – 2:18)
LOVE Promise freedom – but lead to corruption (2:19)
