Title - Our Transformation
Definition
Grk. METAMORPHOO - transform (English METAMORPHOSIS)
metamorphosis - the change in form from one stage to the next in the life history of an organism
example - butterfly
conform - grk. SYSCHEMATIZO,
to become behaviorally and socially similar to
to be molded or shaped into a certain pattern
Key Questions
Why are Christians prone to conforming to the world?
How can we stop conforming and begin transforming?

Point no. 1 - Transformation requires freedom/liberty

Transformation requires an antecedent (prior event) - liberty
2 Corinthians 3:17 NKJV
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
Liberty from what?
The Jews were captive to the “veil”
2 Corinthians 3:14–15 NKJV
14 But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. 15 But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart.
the Jewish mind and heart were captive to the “veil”
“blinded” - grk. POROO, hardened, become calloused, insensible
Jesus is the bondage breaker!
John 8:32–36 NKJV
32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” 33 They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?” 34 Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. 35 And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. 36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
The Gentiles were blinded by the God of the evil age
2 Corinthians 4:3–4 NKJV
3 But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.
the Gentile minds were “blinded”
blinded - grk. TYPHLOO, to make unable or unwilling to understand
NOTE
Paul used different words for the Jews and for the Gentiles
the Gentiles were blinded - they had not yet seen the light of God’s word
the Jews were calloused - they have become insentive the work of God
Captivity leads naturally to conformity
a person who is easily conformed to this world is captive to the world, blinded by the god of this age
Transformation can only begin when the captive is freed!
2 Cor 3.14 - the veil is taken away in Christ (unveiling of God and His purpose)
2 Cor 3.17 - the Lord is the Spirit of liberty

Point no. 2 - Transformation is a process

Transformation is process by the Holy Spirit
2 Corinthians 3:18 NKJV
18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
with the veil taken away, we can see the Lord in His glory
we are being transformed by the Spirit of the Lord into the very image that we see of the Lord Jesus Christ
Transformation begins in the mind
the mind is set free so that it can be renewed
the renewed mind
Romans 12:2 NKJV
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
renewing - to reestablish something in a manner that is new or improved
renewing of the mind - means rebuilding the mind from its foundation
example - a dilapidated car engine
renewed in the spirit of your mind
Ephesians 4:23 NKJV
23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
the spirit of the mind - means the attitude or inclination,
pneuma - spirit, human spirit
the mind is renewed only by the Word of God
Ephesians 4:20–21 NKJV
20 But you have not so learned Christ, 21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus:
taught by Him
the truth is in Jesus
Colossians 3:8 NKJV
8 But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.
renewed in knowledge
2 Timothy 3:15–17 NKJV
15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
the Scripture can make you WISE for salvation
the man of God is thoroughly equipped
the renewed mind knows, appreciates and practices the will of God
Romans 12:2 NKJV
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Transformation brings us to our predestined end
Romans 8:29 NKJV
29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.
conformed - grk. SYMMORPHOS, like natured, similar in representative essence or nature
the image of the Son of God
glorified
Romans 8:30 NKJV
30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

Conclusion (Point no. 3)

If you want to transform a man (from sinner to righteous) -
set him free
free his mind
give him the gospel of salvation
introduce Christ to him
feed him the word of God
renew his mind
teach him the word of God everyday
