Friends of Jesus John 15:12-17 4 characteristics of Jesus' friends: 1. They selflessly love each other (12-13,17) 1 Peter 1:22-23 - 22 Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of brethren, fervently love one another from the heart, 23 for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God. 1 John 3:17-18 - 17 But whoever has the world's goods, and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him? 18 Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth. Best thing you can do is to pray for one another 2. They willingly obey Jesus (14) 1 John 5:3 - 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome. 3. They exclusively know divine truth (15) 1 Timothy 3:15b - 15... which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth. Matthew 13:15 4. They knowingly have been chosen (16) Deuteronomy 7:7 - 7 "The LORD did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any of the peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. Titus 3:5 - 5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy... Divine sovereignty and human responsibility do not contradict each other. Acts 2:23 - 23 this Man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death. As the friends of King Jesus, believers have the honored privilege of knowing and obeying His Word.
