DT: When disciples live with the distinction of generosity God is pleased and glorified.
Aim: We will be generous towards all regardless of the circumstances or our position in life.
Introduction: Generosity is described as liberality in spirit, especially in contributing to the needy. When we get right down to it, generosity is about our heart for giving to others. This trait distinguishes disciples from the rest of the world.
We refer again to this letter written by Paul as he addresses Christians in Rome. “Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality”. So what do we learn from this simple verse.
Transition: I believe the first thing necessary to note is:

Generosity is Required

Let me make this clear today, for the disciple, generosity is not optional. We cannot be selfish and self-absorbed with the blessings God has given us. We are required to give and it pleases God. But also generosity exhibits the love of God.
1 John 3:17 ESV
17 But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him?
- Contribute to the Saints in need
- define contribute- take an interest in, share
- define saints -the people of God
Generosity is not a chore disciples are called to do. Generosity is a life disciples are called to live.
Matthew 25:35 ESV
35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,

Generosity is Intentional

Just as we are to contribute to the family of God, we are expected to intentionally extend our generosity to others.
- Seek to show hospitality
- Seek=Pursue
- Hospitality= fond of strangers
Application: How can I serve you? How can I pray for you?
