Lesson Preview

So we in Threshold have been talking about fear for the bast few weeks. In fact we have been saying “I Don’t Have to Be Afraid”

Fear is not for the children of God. We don’t have to be afraid of the things that would like us to be scared. If fact we have been declaring Gods word over our lives week to week, 2 Timothy 1:7 say “ for God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of love power and a sound mind.”

So today we diving into the sound mind part of that a little further. I mean what is a sound mind anyway? Not a word we hear all the time in are day to day life. “ hey just want to let you know that you have a sound mind” or “ wouldn't it be cool if i had a sound mind like that Iron man or Thor.

Sound Mind=Peace

See when you have a sound mind you have the peace of God. Your not afraid because you have a peace about the bad things that want to come against you.

When you have peace that means no war or fighting things. God is peace and gives us peace againt the bad things that want to stop/scar us

peace with family

peace when you are scared

when things seem to be not going good in life

God is peace!

Today we are going to look at a man in the bible by the name fo Gideon. He to got scared but God gave him peace and he did something amazing with it, i cant wait to share it with you but first lets get ready from some worship.

Judges 7:2–7 ESV

2 The Lord said to Gideon, “The people with you are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hand, lest Israel boast over me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me.’ 3 Now therefore proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, ‘Whoever is fearful and trembling, let him return home and hurry away from Mount Gilead.’ ” Then 22,000 of the people returned, and 10,000 remained. 4 And the Lord said to Gideon, “The people are still too many. Take them down to the water, and I will test them for you there, and anyone of whom I say to you, ‘This one shall go with you,’ shall go with you, and anyone of whom I say to you, ‘This one shall not go with you,’ shall not go.” 5 So he brought the people down to the water. And the Lord said to Gideon, “Every one who laps the water with his tongue, as a dog laps, you shall set by himself. Likewise, every one who kneels down to drink.” 6 And the number of those who lapped, putting their hands to their mouths, was 300 men, but all the rest of the people knelt down to drink water. 7 And the Lord said to Gideon, “With the 300 men who lapped I will save you and give the Midianites into your hand, and let all the others go every man to his home.”

Now this is kinda of a crazy story in the Bible. Maybe you have heard about Gideon army.If you have your Bibles turn to Judges 7.

See like the story said there was this man named Gideon that God used to pull of this amazing miracle and free the His people. Now in Gideon’s story we can pull 3 important lessons that will help us when we come up against something that is scary or bigger then us.

FEAR DISQUALIFIES US FROM GODS PLAN FOR ARE LIFE

Now let me just say this right now, fear is normal. I don’t want you going around thing that if you ever get scared that your a bad person. Look at the men that Gideon got to fight in this battle. They where scared! In fact when asked 2/3 left just like that.

This is what i want you to remember guys, we cant stay afraid. When we stay scared we miss out on the victory that God has for us. When we stay in fear we are saying we trust in whatever I’m scared of more (that it will get me/harm me) then i trust God to bring me a sound mind, peace.

The 2/3 of the army that left didn’t get to experience the victory. They missed out on God’s plan

BE READY FOR THE ATTACK

Did you know that we are in a battle? It might not feel like it all the time but everyday we are fighting.

fighting the urge to listen to mom and dad

fighting the urge to want to cheat in school

fighting the urge to just fight are brother or sisters

we are in a fight spiritually guys and we must be ready for the attack. When the mens in Gideon’s army went to drink water some of them just went at it. Not watching there surroundings or looking for the attack from the enemy.

In the same way we must be ready for the enemy. PRAYING, READING GODS WORD, MEMORIZING GODS WORD

If we can be like the men that where watching and aware of the surroundings God too can use us in the fight. You can be like the 300 hundred that were left.

GOD CAN TO A LOT WITH YOUR LITTLE

Have all the girls leave except one and begin the match.

Guys God is not asking you to do all the lighting, in fact the is asking you to trust him with you little and man watch what he can do with it.

Boys and girls you guys can do amazing things

1 Timothy 4:12 ESV

12 Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.

What a amazing thing that God’s word says about you guys. YOU SET THE EXAMPLE! You guys can do a lot when you trust in God
