Chapter 3

Key Thought: Who Are You Going To Trust? (vs. 5-6)

Verses 5-6 presents trust in the Lord and trust in ourselves as composing forces. And if our heart was a glass and trust in God was one liquid and the trust in ourselves was another, our heart could only be filled up with one. They both take up the same space. Look at verse 5. It says trust in the Lord with ALL your heart. God doesn’t want some of your heart or 3/4’s of it. He wants alls of it. God doesn’t want to share your heart with you.
Now naturally, our default is to trust in ourselves. Which means that we have to intentionally make the choice to trust in God. We literally have to pour out or empty ourselves so that we can choose to trust God.
Question: What are some of the things we must pour out or empty ourselves of so that we can trust God?
Fear
Insecurity
Worry
Control
And the text says that when we empty ourselves of these things, when we don’t lean towards our own understanding, when we acknowledge God in all of our choices, he will make our paths straight.
When I think about a straight line two things come to mind: clarity and direction.
And when I look back over my life, the times where I was confused and didn’t know which way to go, were the times my fear, insecurity, worry, and control was competing with my trust in God.
I could be sensing God’s presence over here, but maybe I’m worried about something over here.
And in those moments you have to be convinced that God is smarter than you are.

Key Thought: How are you honoring God with Your Money? (vs. 9-10)

The proverbs tells us to honor God with the first fruits of all of your produce. So everything we take in, we should honor God with the first fruits of it. T honor God with first fruits means to prioritize God in your money and to remember that he is the one that gave you what you have.
Question: Today we give firstfruits from our income, but sometimes the habit of tithing is difficult establish. Why do you think some people find it difficult to tithe?
This proverb tells us that when we give to the Lord, it will bring increase.
