ENOCH

(Gen. 5:18; 22-24; Heb. 11:5, 6; Jude 14, 15)

Introduction:   Enoch must always stand out as one of the great examples from the patriarchal age. Though the account is very brief concerning him, yet there is much we can learn from him.

I.         He walked with God. (Gen. 5:22,24a)

A.      Suggests companionship.

B.      Suggests agreement. (Amos 3:3) Agree in direction! Agree in route! Agree in destination!

C.      Certainly suggests union of his heart and life with God’s will.

II.        Enoch Pleased God. (Heb. 11:5, 6)

A.      Enoch pleased God by his faith.

1.       He believed in the existence of God!

2.       He believed God would reward him if he diligently sought him!

3.       Notice: his faith was a practical faith!

B.      By walking with God, Enoch refused to walk with the wicked world!

III.      Enoch Prophesied for God. (Jude 14, 15)

A.      Prophecy not recorded in Genesis.

B.      By inspiration, Jude records what it is that Enoch prophesied.

C.      He prophesied concerning the judgment of God upon the ungodly! The coming of the Lord in judgment!

IV.       Enoch was Translated by God. (Gen. 5:24; Heb. 11:5)

A.      He did not see death!

B.      Elijah was also translated.

1.       2 Kings 2:1-11.

2.       There was a search - 50 men for 3 days, but Elijah was not found. (v. 16, 17)

3.       cf. Heb. 11:5 - it appears that a search also was made for Enoch!

C.      What a grand testimony to Enoch’s faith, faithfulness, and a life of uprightness!

Conclusion:             We need to learn from Enoch the importance of walking with God!
