! Nehemiah and Rebuilding the Walls
I.
THE DESPERATE NEED – Nehemiah 1:1-3
A.
Walls of Protection & Security Down
(The same with our Children in many homes in our communities)
B. So many Children have never heard about Jesus or the need of Him
(Multitudes of Children who are outside the walls of any church)
II.
NEHEMIAH’S RESPONSE – Nehemiah 1:4
A. He wept –His heart was broken at the situation
(We won’t do anything unless our hearts are broken over the condition
of the Children.)
B. He prayed – Earnest prayer over the situation
(Our broken hearts move us to really pray about the plight of the Children.)
THE CONTENT OF HIS PRAYER – Nehemiah 1:5-11
a.
He acknowledged the Greatness of God and His power
(We often limit God as what He can do because of little faith to believe great things of God.)
b.
He acknowledged his sin and the sins of his nation asking for forgiveness
(We need to ask God to forgive our own indifference to the plight of the Children in our communities.)
c.
He acknowledged his willingness to be used by God to do something
about the situation of the broken walls
(We often miss great blessing & joy because we are not willing to have God use us in meeting the needs of others.)
d.
He prayed and then asked the help of the king
(Today we need the help of the church which has the resources to do the job of reaching the children with the Good News of the Gospel.)
C. He went to the city where the walls were broken down to survey the need – Neh.
2:11-15
(We need to go to where the children are located outside the comforts of our own
home or church.)
D.
He enlisted others to build their part of the wall – Nehemiah 2:17-18
(Each believer and church is needed to help build their part of the wall in reaching
the Children where they live.)
III.
NEHEMIAH’S OPPOSITION – Nehemiah 2:19-20
A. They faced opposition when they began to rebuild the walls.
(We can expect opposition especially when we reach out to the Children in our
communities.)
a.
There will be ridicule by others for what we are trying to do.
(What you are doing won’t last.
– Nehemiah 4:3)
b.
Our enemy will plot against us to stop us from rebuilding the wall
(Our enemy will try to stop us from reaching the children- Nehemiah 4:8-9)
B. Those with resources to do the work were confronted about their lack of sacrifice
(It takes sacrifice on the part of all of us if we are to reach the Children – Nehemiah 5:9-12)
C. They sought to stop the work by having Nehemiah focus on other things
(Our enemy will seek to have us focus on other than reaching the Children in our
communities and do what ever he can to keep us from the work – Neh.
6:3-4)

IV.
HEHEMIAH’S CAUSE FOR REJOICING
A. The walls were completed – Nehemiah 6:15
a.
The people were now protected and safe in the City
(when Children receive Jesus they are safe in His strong arms)
b.
They acknowledged that it was the work of God – Nehemiah 6:16
(The reaching of Children can only be done with God enabling His people)
B. As a results of the walls being completed and seeing God at work, revival resulted
a.
When we are obedient to what we know God wants us to do – then He is able to
do even a greater work in us – Nehemiah 8:8-9
b.
When we obey God there is great cause to celebrate – Nehemiah 8:12
(When Children come to Jesus to have their sins forgiven, there is great reason to celebrate)
V.
CONCLUSION
A. If we do not do our part in building the wall ( reaching the Children) then we miss the
blessing and joy of seeing them safe in Jesus arms.
B. Just think what could be accomplished in reaching Children if we all banded together to
do a great work (Neh.
2:18) because we have a heart to work (Neh.
4:6) and God gets the
glory realizing that the work is done with the help of our God in reaching the Children in our communities.
