Intro

Many are suggesting we’re in the last days. There’s plenty that lines up w Scripture that the suggestion has truth in. Some say Tribulation has already started.
There’s a large debate around Pre Trib, Mid Trib, Post trib, pre millenial , post.
There is one certain fact, COVID hasn’t left, there’s an election coming, the past 6 month have been tumultuous
And God’s getting our attention.
What has COVID come to expose? Welp, Asa serves as the backdrop for us to learn from as we’re identifying our blindspots.
Israel had been in intense wicked time. David, Solomon, Rehoboam, Abijah and now Asa.
Rehoboam-led without a heart for God
2 Chronicles 12:14 NKJV
14 And he did evil, because he did not prepare his heart to seek the Lord.

Rehoboam vs. Jeroboam

R-no heart for God
J- idolatrous
sounds like the bloods and the crips or should i say Republicans and Democrats
the battle went beyond Rehoboam to his son Abijah
Abijah is now fighting Jeroboam
he defeats him and dies
Asa comes to throne
Point: it’s his turn to bring order back to the nation AFTER a dark season.
Transition: I don’t know that there’s been another time.
2 Chronicles 14:1 NKJV
1 So Abijah rested with his fathers, and they buried him in the City of David. Then Asa his son reigned in his place. In his days the land was quiet for ten years.
Context:
Asa is now the ruling king with war, carnage, a generational battle all in his recent history.
I love what the bible says about him...
2 Chronicles 14:2–7 ESV
2 And Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God. 3 He took away the foreign altars and the high places and broke down the pillars and cut down the Asherim 4 and commanded Judah to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, and to keep the law and the commandment. 5 He also took out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the incense altars. And the kingdom had rest under him. 6 He built fortified cities in Judah, for the land had rest. He had no war in those years, for the Lord gave him peace. 7 And he said to Judah, “Let us build these cities and surround them with walls and towers, gates and bars. The land is still ours, because we have sought the Lord our God. We have sought him, and he has given us peace on every side.” So they built and prospered.
What has COVID come to expose?
April “I know people had to lose their life, but Pastor COVID came to bless me and my house!!”
For some it’s been the other way around and instead of increase you’ve had subtraction. But even in the midst of stuff leaving, something better has been built.
I’d rather know what’s weak be exposed now rather than finding out about it later!!
let me catch the plaque in my heart valves now rather than open heart surgery later.
sugar levels - amputation
he’s cheating on me now - married and he cheats
You might as well tune off now if you’re not ready to look at what could be a nightmare later.
In the case of the text, Asa drops some nuggets.

He GALVANIZED the Moment

2 Chronicles 14:4–5 NKJV
4 He commanded Judah to seek the Lord God of their fathers, and to observe the law and the commandment. 5 He also removed the high places and the incense altars from all the cities of Judah, and the kingdom was quiet under him.
repentance - blessing returns
He didn’t let Abijah

He MAXIMIZED the Moment

2 Chronicles 14:7 NKJV
7 Therefore he said to Judah, “Let us build these cities and make walls around them, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us, because we have sought the Lord our God; we have sought Him, and He has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered.
Are you taking advantage of being able to go out, stock up

He ORGANIZED the Moment

2 Chronicles 14:8 NKJV
8 And Asa had an army of three hundred thousand from Judah who carried shields and spears, and from Benjamin two hundred and eighty thousand men who carried shields and drew bows; all these were mighty men of valor.

He RESPIRITUALIZED the Moment

2 Chronicles 15:8–9 NKJV
8 And when Asa heard these words and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and removed the abominable idols from all the land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities which he had taken in the mountains of Ephraim; and he restored the altar of the Lord that was before the vestibule of the Lord. 9 Then he gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and those who dwelt with them from Ephraim, Manasseh, and Simeon, for they came over to him in great numbers from Israel when they saw that the Lord his God was with him.
2 Chronicles 15:11–12 NKJV
11 And they offered to the Lord at that time seven hundred bulls and seven thousand sheep from the spoil they had brought. 12 Then they entered into a covenant to seek the Lord God of their fathers with all their heart and with all their soul;
2 Chronicles 16:7–8 NKJV
7 And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said to him: “Because you have relied on the king of Syria, and have not relied on the Lord your God, therefore the army of the king of Syria has escaped from your hand. 8 Were the Ethiopians and the Lubim not a huge army with very many chariots and horsemen? Yet, because you relied on the Lord, He delivered them into your hand.

He COMPROMIZED up the Moment

Close

the old folk “hold my hand Lord, hold my hand, while I’m on this tedious journey hold my hand”; “walk w me”
if it’s up
i’m talking to somebody, that’s about to make a mistake, Jesus, has gotten you this, Jesus will take you all the way,
if I bow to Jesus, i don’t have bow to man
now unto Him who is able to keep from falling

Sitting at the kitchen counter. Working on my sermon. Not wiggling, been rough. I scooted in the chair to adjust. “POP”. Caught me by surprise. I braced myself. Heard a drop and something rolling. There was a screw on the floor. I turned the stool over. I could clearly see where it’d come from. But there were 3 other screws. To my shock and surprise, all 3 were loose.
I stopped immediately thought “What if the one hadn’t popped? I’d never examined.
The chair was still functional. It wasn’t wobbly. I was in flow and didn’t have to stop. Because it seemed sturdy. I could’ve continued. But what if someone else had come and sat down. How long would it have taken.
As I was examining, I actually screwed it back in. “That’s not how the. In order for the chair to stay sturdy and offer support, you’ve got to screw it in.”
It wasn’t the average screw, it needed an allen head. Problem, I didn’t know what size. So I had to go hunting for the right size to shore up the seat. After I couldn’t find the Allen wrench, I tried a screw driver. I tried using my hands to tighten.
I had to make a choice. Do I leave it the way it was which wasn’t exposing any compromise or stop
I didn’t want to the miss the window of grace that was there.
I started thinking, “I wonder if the other stool is in the same condition?”
God’s given us a reprieve from the pandemonium that was present at the onset of the pandemic. He’s abated the intensity of the riots and protest. He’s giving you an moment that you have to ask yourself do I address what COVID is showing or do i miss the moment and hope my life doesn’t come undone.
