Your Peace in the Storm

Luke 19:42 KJV 1900
42 Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.
Romans 3:16–17 KJV 1900
16 Destruction and misery are in their ways: 17 And the way of peace have they not known:

Life under the Sun

Ecclesiastes 1:2 KJV 1900
2 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.
All is vanity
++In wisdom he saw order
++In knowledge he saw process
++Neither provided purpose
Ecclesiastes 1:9 KJV 1900
9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
All is vanity
In wisdom he saw order
In knowledge he saw process
Neither provided purpose
++Activity without meaning
Job 14:1 KJV 1900
1 Man that is born of a woman Is of few days, and full of trouble.
Under the Sun
++Is historical
++Is chronological
++Is an illusion of stability

Things Change with Time

It is one thing we all have.
Ecclesiastes 9:11 KJV 1900
11 I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
In this race
++Speed won’t help you
++Strength will not sustain you
++Wealth will not satisfy you
++Wisdom will not provide the answer
This is a race of opportunity
++A race of time
++A race of chance

Solomon was a realist

Ecclesiastes 3:1–8 KJV 1900
1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: 2 A time to be born, and a time to die; A time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; 3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; A time to break down, and a time to build up; 4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; A time to mourn, and a time to dance; 5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; 6 A time to get, and a time to lose; A time to keep, and a time to cast away; 7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; A time to keep silence, and a time to speak; 8 A time to love, and a time to hate; A time of war, and a time of peace.
Time is shared by all thing
++Good and Bad
++Positive and Negative
++Give and take
++Right and wrong

Solomon was a sceptic

Ecclesiastes 1:12–13 KJV 1900
12 I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem. 13 And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven: this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith.
Travail is a common gift to man
++Wisdom did not produce it
++The pursuit of wisdom revealed it
Ecclesiastes 1:14 KJV 1900
14 I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit.
Ecclesiastes 1:17–18 KJV 1900
17 And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit. 18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

Solomon saw more

Ecclesiastes 3:11 KJV 1900
11 He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.
He saw
++The limitation of Man
++The Sovereignty of God
Isaiah 61:3 KJV 1900
3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, To give unto them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they might be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.
Things Change with Time
++Ashes to Beauty
++Mourning to joy
++Heaviness to praise
Broken and lost
++Trees of Righteousness
++The planting of the Lord
++To Glorify Him
Habakkuk 2:14 KJV 1900
14 For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, As the waters cover the sea.

The Journey Over

Mark 4:35–36 KJV 1900
35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. 36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.

There will aways be another side.

2 Corinthians 4:7–10 KJV 1900
7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. 8 We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; 10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.

Life under the sun is impacted by shared time

Jesus has been teaching about the Kingdom of God
He was a great story teller
His stories
++Were called parables
++Were a common way of communicating truth
++Were connected to life
It was evening time. The seas were calm
Jesus tells them lets go over to the other side.

They followed Jesus into the ship

I have decided to to Follow Jesus no turning back.
It is easy to sing this
++At the beginning of the journey
++When life is good

Things were about to change.

Mark 4:37–38 KJV 1900
37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. 38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

There good time would be shared by a Storm

It was
++An unexpected storm
++A great storm
++A storm of wind
++A storm of rain
The Test of Times
++Good times test our obedience
++Troubled times test our faith
Storms of life
++Can overwhelm our faith
++Erode our confidence
There is a peace
++That is with us in the storm
++That is the catalyst of our faith
++Than Comes only from God
John 14:27 KJV 1900
27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
In the story the peace of God
++Is not in the storm
++Is not in their concern
++In Christ alone
Mark 4:38 KJV 1900
38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
In the midst of their storm
++Their peace was asleep
++Their peace was unaffected

They were shaken by the storm

Hebrews 12:24 KJV 1900
24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
No matter the Storm
++We have a better Covenant
Hebrews 12:26–29 KJV 1900
26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven. 27 And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. 28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: 29 For our God is a consuming fire.
No matter the Storm
We have a better Covenant
++We have a better promise
++We have recieved a kingdom
++I shall not be moved
Psalm 46:2 KJV 1900
2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
2 Corinthians 10:3–4 KJV 1900
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
You are fully equipped
++Jesus is in the ship
++Jesus knows your trouble
++Jesus cares for you
Mark 4:39–40 KJV 1900
39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
Mark 4:39 KJV 1900
39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
Mark 4:41 KJV 1900
41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
Ephesians 2:14 KJV 1900
14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
Isaiah 26:3 KJV 1900
3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on thee: Because he trusteth in thee.
