We Want To See Jesus

V 20-22
Maps some gentile Greeks came to Philip
the Greek Syro Phonetician woman having her daughters demon taken out
Phil in confusion came to Andrew -Jesus has wanted to go to the Jews
We would to see Jesus
not just to look at Him but to talk with Him
very persistent
V 23 what?
why… Holy Spirit had John include this
Context we need to zoom out and look at the big picture
V 19 the world (Gentiles) has come after Him
Jesus came to save all people groups
Jesus came first to the Nation of Israel
The Nation is about to hang Him on the cross and reject Him
V 23 --this seems to be a signal that the time has come
the climax to His mission on earth
Up until this time,, He has said ,my time has not yet come
Come to die for the sins of His sheep
so when they believe - the father can put our sins on Jesus
and declare us not guilty , and our sins forgiven
And God receives Glory from our praise
V 23 Jesus did not say its time to be crucified but he looked beyond to the glory of God
Hebrews 12:2 AV
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Planted

Verily verily — listen up this is important
V 25
unless a seed is planted it is wasted
the seed has to be planted where it dies, but in that death new life is brought fourth
that plant produces good fruit
think of your life as a seed,
lets think 1st as a normal person, as long as you are selfish, you probably wont be good to anybody
selfish parent, the rest of the family suffers
selfish worker the company suffers
but if you put others first, and die to self, others around you will thrive
What did Jesus do?
he thought of His flock, and bringing glory to God, when He died on the cross
Matthew 1:21 AV
21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
When we come to Jesus we have to plant our selfishness in the ground
put ourselves to death
come to Jesus , bankrupt of anything good to offer Him
and allow the Holy Spirit to give you new life
1 Corinthians 15:36 NKJV
36 Foolish one, what you sow is not made alive unless it dies.
believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved

Planted II

we as Christians need to plant our selves daily
Galatians 2:20 AV
20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Galatians 6:14 AV
14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
do we want to be used by God?
we have to deny our worldly selfish lusts
put ourselves under the authority of Jesus
Further explanation from Jesus
V 25
He that loveth his life— Psuche We call it the ego. It means the human personality that thinks, plans for the future, and charts its course. Jesus is saying that this is what must die In other words, the independent will of man must die, so that the follower of Christ actively submits his will to him
Boice, J. M. (2005). The Gospel of John: an expositional commentary (p. 941). Grand Rapids, MI: Baker Books.
He that hateth his life— zoe, which, joined to the adjective “eternal,” means the divine life. Every Christian has this eternal or divine life now, but he has it in its fullness only when his entire personality with all its likes and desires is surrendered to Christ. It is close to the same thing to say that the Christian will experience the fullness of God’s blessing only when he consciously and deliberately walks in God’s way.
Boice, J. M. (2005). The Gospel of John: an expositional commentary (p. 941). Grand Rapids, MI: Baker Books.
is Jesus Lord in your life?
George Mueller could be your example. He lived in England several generations ago and founded many great orphanages, maintaining them solely through prayer. He was extremely effective. But when asked the secret of his effective service, he replied, “There was a day when I died—died to George Mueller, his opinions, preferences, tastes and will; died to the world, its approval or censure; died to the approval or blame of my brethren or friends; and since then I have studied only to show myself approved unto God.”
Boice, J. M. (2005). The Gospel of John: an expositional commentary (p. 941). Grand Rapids, MI: Baker Books.
are you willing to do anything for Jesus
only then will you begin to live
Hebrews 12:2 AV
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
it was for Joy that Jesus went to the cross

A Jesus Follower

being a Jesus follower is more than saying so
V 26 serve me
die to self
give up ambitions, plans for your future
your opinions, your will
Follow Jesus where He leads
lets look at the disciples as they followed Jesus
slept in the open, hungry, always traveling, terrified, asked to do the impossible,
that was before the Church started
look at The Apostle Paul
Turn to 2 Corinthians 11 23-27
This is the extreme
in every Christians heart there is a cross and a throne. and the Christian is on the throne until, until he puts himself on the cross.
-A W Tozer
Every day every hour we have to die to self
Matthew 25:37–39 AV
37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? 38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? 39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
Matthew 25:40 AV
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
we need to follow Him in witnessing
faithfulness to our calling
to His teachings
study to show yourselves approved
in holiness
V 26 the reward
Be near Jesus
Live life to the fullest, abundant life
The Honor of the Father
Conclusion
to die to self is a conscious deliberate decision we do
every minute of the day
unless we give up out rights and serve and follow Jesus we will not begin to live
