Hearing From God

Remember the old telephone game?
You would get a message and pass it on
It was usually never what you started with
Jesus said
John 10:27 CSB
My sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me.
“On the one hand we have massive testimony to and widespread faith in God’s personal, guiding communication with us… On the other hand we also find a pervasive and often painful uncertainty about how hearing God’s voice actually works today.” Dallas Willard
This is the rub -
We are told we will know His voice
We want his direction and leading

Set aside time to worship God daily

As they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”
How do we hear from God? - Worship
True worship, in other words, is defined by the priority we place on who God is in our lives and where God is on our list of priorities. True worship is a matter of the heart expressed through a lifestyle of holiness.
Daily disciplines -
Scripture reading and memorization - Hiding the word in our hearts
Prayer and service - some translations say ministering
Fasting - denying ourselves to focus on God
When we worship we tune ourselves in to God speaking

God speaks by the Holy Spirit

Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and incomprehensible things you do not know.

A person’s heart plans his way, but the Lord determines his steps.
d. Church
Proverbs 19:20 CSB
Listen to counsel and receive instruction so that you may be wise later in life.

He is not Lord if we say no - internal setting

So being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus.

The Bible recognizes no faith that does not lead to obedience, nor does it recognize any obedience that does not spring from faith. The two are at opposite sides of the same coin.

God's commands are designed to guide you to life's very best. You will not obey Him, if you do not believe Him and trust Him. You cannot believe Him if you do not love Him. You cannot love Him unless you know Him.

God has given you everything you need to know Him and hear Him
