Thy Will Be Done

A father and his young daughter took a trip one day. About 5 minutes into the trip the young girl told her father that she wanted some french fries and a milk shake. Her father responded not yet dear we are just getting into our journey and we need to make a little more progress to our destination. The young girl sighed and said ok daddy. As they drove on the highway through each town, the young girl would shout out that she wanted whatever her little eyes saws, Daddy I want pizza!, not now dear, but I promise we will get something to eat shortly, Daddy I want hotdogs and chips! Not now sweetie but I promise we will get something really good shortly, just hang in there. well after a while just after dusk or so and just miles of their destination, the father said to his daughter are you about ready to eat. The young girl sighed and said yes daddy, I’ve been ready to eat a long time ago! He said ok! Turning the corner and going over a hill there sat in the middle of nowhere a fantastic carnival! With bright flashing lights and all sorts of games and clowns and lots people enjoying themselves! Fun rides and even a great big ferris wheel. Her favorite ride! And all of her favorite foods in one place wow! They walking to food area and the little girl was so excited that she forgot all about eating! Her father said what do you want to eat angel? She was so over whelmed with excitement that she stopped, and looked at her father and said; daddy, I really don’t know? You pick.
See this little girl reflects us in our desires of what we want or at least think we want. We can really see something and think that’s it! I want that! But in reality we will not be satisfied with that. Our Heavenly Father knows this too and he wants us to trust Him enough to allow His will to be done. See when Jesus is teaching the disciples to pray “Thy Will Be Done” in Matthew 6:10 He’s really teaching them to exercise their faith in God. We must learn to exercise our faith in God. Like the little girl who say everything before her eyes and wanted it. In the end her father knew what was coming after a little while. Something so much greater then she could even imagine. Listen if you just learn to wait and trust God something greater then you can even imagine is coming. But you have to allow God to take you to the destination.
See telling God that you want His will to be done, does not mean that He is going to stop at all of our destinations, but that we are going to allow Him to take us to the place He is trying to get us too. And then when we get there and we are so overwhelmed we say with confidence Father I know you know what’s best because you’ve already taken me to a place I would’ve never imagined!
Proverbs 3:5–6 NLT
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. 6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
To want God’s will is to want God’s desire and to want God’s desire is to want God’s best for you even when you can’t see it. This is the true power of faith, it really is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.
Hebrews 11:1 NCV
1 Faith means being sure of the things we hope for and knowing that something is real even if we do not see it.
The little girl knew that her father was going to take care of her needs even when he didn’t stop at her choice of destination, because she didn’t know what her father knew.
Listen even when God is taking you on your journey and all along the way your wondering when you’ll get what your asking for.
Think on all the times before He has taken care of you.
God will supply all of your needs according to his riches and glory. Let me rephrase that. According to His will.
By allowing His will to be done in our lives we allow Him to get all the praise. Just like the father recieved his daughter admiration and love for doing something so overwhelming nice for her, Allow God to do the same for you.
God desires to overwhelm you with his love.
2 Corinthians 9:8 NLT
8 And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.
The little girl was so blessed by the father’s gesture that she allowed him to pick for them both, the father knowing all of his options had plenty to pick from to make the event even more meaningful for them both. Listen God wants to make your journey with Him even more meaningful. He wants to give you some wonderful surprises in life and even though you may not always get everything you want from him,
God wants you to trust Him more which is why he doesn’t allow you to see everything He is planning for you.
In the end by following His will and not your own, you will always end up with His best and not second best. So enjoy the journey, it’s a lot of good things to see, but at the end of it is God’s perfect will, which will bring you the most joy.
