VIRTUOUS LIVING

Part 2: True Devotion

Matthew 26:30-35

Matthew 26:33-35, “Peter replied, ‘Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will.’ ‘I tell you the truth,’ Jesus answered, ‘this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.’ But Peter declared, ‘Even if I have to die… I’ll never disown you.’”

Proverbs 20:6, “Many will say they are loyal friends, but who can find one who is truly reliable?” (NLT)

2 Samuel 15:19-21, “…Ittai replied to the king, “…wherever my lord the king may be, whether it means life or death, there will your servant be.”

TO WHOM ARE WE TO BE DEVOTED?

1.) We Are To Be Devoted To Our Spouse.

Malachi 2:15-16, “Didn’t the Lord make you one with your wife… So guard your heart; remain loyal to the wife of your youth. ‘For I hate divorce!’ says the Lord… do not be unfaithful to your wife.” (NLT)

2.) We Are To Be Devoted To Our Friends.

Proverbs 17:17, “A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need.” (NLT)

3.) We Are To Be Devoted To Our Church Family.

Acts 2:42, 44-46, “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship…”

Romans 12:10, “Be devoted to one another in brotherly love…”

WHY IS OUR CULTURE SO DISLOYAL?

A lack of devotion comes from a divided heart.

Mark 12:30, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”

James 4:8-9, “Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief.” (NLT)
