Romans 12:18–21 CEB
If possible, to the best of your ability, live at peace with all people. Don’t try to get revenge for yourselves, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath. It is written, Revenge belongs to me; I will pay it back, says the Lord.Instead, If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink. By doing this, you will pile burning coals of fire upon his head.Don’t be defeated by evil, but defeat evil with good.
Here we are, the final week of our sermon series, When in Romans XII…! For me this has been a fun sermon series. This is the first time I have done a series on one chapter of the Bible and it has caused me to look at my discipleship and how I reach out to others. Looking at not conforming to the world but being transformed by the Word of God has me paying closer attention to the world desires that may have crept into my life.
It has also offered me the chance to look at who or what is leading my life. I’ve had to ask myself if Christ is the head of my life or am I following my human desires. I’ve always look to Christ as the head of the church and followers/disciples are the body following the head’s lead, but I had not thought the exact same for my personal life. I follow Christ’s lead but is he truly the head of my life is what I had to ask. After working on the second sermon for the series and asking this question I can say, yes.
Then questioning who is head in my life led to last week’s personal question of, do I love like God? Is my love complete and unconditional? When I say I love all people, do I put limits on my love? These have been difficult questions I have been asking myself. The quick and easy answer is yes I am doing what I am supposed to do but is that the most accurate answer? Not all the times.
