Part 1: A Life of Honor

VIRTUOUS LIVING

Mark 6:1-6

Mark 6:4-5, Jesus said to them, “Only in his hometown, among his relatives and in his own house is a prophet without honor. He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them.”

WHO ARE WE CALLED TO HONOR?

1.) God Calls Us To Honor Our Father & Mother.

Exodus 20:12, “Honor you father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.”

2.) God Calls Us To Honor The Governing Authorities.

Romans 13:1, 7, “Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is not authority except that which God has established… Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe… respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.”

1 Peter 2:17, “Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the government.”

3.) God Calls Us To Double Honor Pastors/Elders.

1 Timothy 5:17, “The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor; especially those whose work is preaching and teaching.”

CHALLENGE:

Romans 12:10, “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.”

WHY IS OUR CULTURE SO DISHONORING?

Our Culture Is Dishonoring Because It Does Not Honor God.

Psalm 22:23, “You who fear the Lord, praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, honor him! Revere him…”

Isaiah 29:13, “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me…”
