Ephesians 6:18–20 NIV
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.
Pray:
In the Spirit
On all occasions
All kinds of prayers and requests
Be alert
Always keep on praying for:
all the saints
each other
Pray for those who proclaim the gospel (everyone)
That they would fearlessly proclaim the gospel
James 5:13–16 NIV
Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
Pray if you or someone else are:
in trouble
happy
sick
in sin
Because God will:
make the sick well
forgive sins
Confess sins to each other so that we can pray for each other and be healed.

The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

Jesus’ example of prayer
Matthew 6:5–8 NIV
“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
When you pray don’t be like the hypocrites or the pagans
Love to show off
Standing in synagogues
on street corner
Babbling many words over and over
Pray
Privately to God alone
Does not mean never pray out loud.
Check your heart and your motives
Know that God hears and knows
Does not mean don’t ask that would be in direct opposition to all of scripture, but rather don’t think it is the amount of prayer that makes God move, but rather trust God.
When you pray here is a good example:
Matthew 6:9–13 NIV
“This, then, is how you should pray: “ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’
Adore and glorify the father.
Remember everything is done in his will and trust Him
Don’ t be afraid to ask for provision and things you need spiritually and physically
Confess and ask for help.
Keep the focus on God.
Conclusion
Prayer is the key to God’s work on earth. It is our first and greatest participation in the work of his church. There are many ways to pray. The key is to pray. Not just at meals or in the morning, but all the time.
We as the church have to get on our knees and pray. That is why we have begun our weekly prayer time. That is why we have a prayer team. Prayer is how we will hear God’s plan for us. Prayer is the protection we need moving forward as a church and as individuals. Prayer is our weapon against sickness, hopelessness, the sin in our lives and the enemy.
