 Faith   Heb. 11:6   Wednesday Night Bible Study   6/9/04

  Charles H. Spurgeon – Faith and obedience are bound up in the same bundle; he that obeys God trusts God; and he that trusts God obeys God.

  Faith means to win over or to persuade based on fact. Heb. 11:1 – persuasion isn’t based on the outcome of imagination but is based on God’s facts.

I. The Importance of Faith (Heb. 11:6)

  A. We are justified (made perfect) by faith   Rom. 3:28

  B. We are saved by faith  Eph. 2:8-9

  C. We can move mountains by faith    Matt. 17:20

  D. We are cleansed by faith    Acts 26:18

 

II. The Acquision of faith

  A. Rom. 10:17 – faith cometh by hearing

    1. After salvation faith is acquired as we receive messages from scripture and act upon them.

    2. Before scripture, men and women often heard directly from God

      a. Gen. 12:1 -

      c. Jonah 1:1 –

III. The Activation of Faith

  A. Two Greeks terms are translated word in the New Testament.

    1. Logos total inspired word of God

    2. Rhema a passage given to specific individuals for their personal application.

      a. Luke 5:5 -

      c. Eph. 5:25-26 –

IV. The Accompaniment of faith

  A. Jas. 2:17-18 – how is faith expressed

    1. Faith is always expressed by action

      a. Heb. 11:3 – framed – fitted together

      b. Heb. 11:4 – Abel offered

      c. Heb. 11:7 – Noah moved with fear

      d. Heb. 11:8 – Abraham obeyed

  What is faith? To persuade based on facts. God persuades us based on the written word of God. When we act on it this pleases Him. That’s why we can’t please Him without faith.
