UNHOLY HABITS

Part 4: I’ve Got Road Rage. So What?

Ephesians 4:26-27

Psalm 139:23-24, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.”

Ephesians 4:26-27, “‘In your anger do not sin’: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.”

Genesis 4:6-7

TWO TYPICAL WAYS THE WORLD DEALS WITH ANGER

1.) Some People Spew Out Anger.

Proverbs 29:11, “Fools vent their anger…”

Proverbs 14:17, “A quick-tempered person does foolish things.”

2.) Other People Stew In Anger.

Psalm 32:3, “When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.”

Luke 15:28, “The older brother became angry and refused to go in…”

WHAT’S WRONG WITH UNCONTROLLED ANGER?

Matthew 5:21-22, “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’ But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment.”

A BIBLICAL RESPONSE TO ANGER

1.) Unholy Anger: Put It Out.

Proverbs 17:14, “Starting a quarrel is like breeching a dam; so drop the matter, before a dispute breaks out.”

James 1:19-20, “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.”

2.) Holy Anger: Fan It Out.

Mark 3:5, “[Jesus] looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, ‘Stretch out your hand.’ He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored.”
