Review of Paul’s letter on unity in the church.
1 Corinthians 1:10 call to unity, end division, be of same mindset and purpose.
1:10 Key to letter: Appeal by the authority of Jesus for unity in heart, mindset, and purpose.
Chapter 2 – the message of Christ and the cross – the basic Good News.
Through God’s Spirit we gain the mindset of Christ.
Chapter 3 – leaders and wisdom
1 Corinthians 3:16–17 you are God’s temple, don’t destroy the temple. (division) first picture of the body as God’s temple (collectively together)
1 Corinthians 4:2, 20 servants must be faithful, not talk but power (of the Spirit)
1 Corinthians 5 not tolerating intentional sin but removing it from the gathering.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 body is temple of Holy Spirit (individually) flee sin/temptation don’t unite the temple with sin.
1 Corinthians 7 purity in marriage relationships – for the sake of the body
1 Corinthians 8-10 various examples of avoiding idolatry and considering others before self.
1 Corinthians 10:23-24 you can, but should you?
1 Corinthians 11-15 the functioning body – this is the third example of the body collectively as the functioning body of Jesus Christ in this world.
11 honor the Head/Christ, take care of the body/members.
12 all members of the one body of Christ – unity in diversity and diversity in unity. Each member has a purpose/function and we all need each other and all united by the Head.
1 Corinthians 12:12-13
13 Love is the purpose of the body. Individual member functions are meaningless without love.
14 order and function in unity for mission.
1 Corinthians 14:26 key but also Repeatedly – building up the body, support, encourage, strengthen
15 the power of the body = power that resurrected Jesus.
1 Corinthians 15:54 – transformed beyond death in victory
1 Corinthians 15:55-56 The power of the resurrection is victory over sin death. The law is the power of sin that brings death.
1 Corinthians 15:57-58 God gives the victory through Christ – this is cause to continue forward because in the Lord our service to Him is not worthless.

1 Corinthians 16:13-14 let all you do be done in love.
