ACTIVELY LOOK FOR SOMETHING THAT MATTERS
Matthew 9:27-31
Introduction- How many of you could actually find Waldo? Many of you might quickly say that you could. I was on the other hand, easily bored by those types of pictures. I would have much rather sought out tangible things, things I could see, touch, or my favorite taste. I know this isn’t strange, however. So many things in life that people chase are things that are tangible, the things that we can appreciate with our physical senses. How often though, do we think about or seek out things we cannot see? If we were true to ourselves, its not a common action.
· Even things that we obtain on a regular basis, most of us do not think about as we obtain them.
· Let us think for a second:
o How about electricity?
o Even more critical to our lives, how about oxygen?
· The point is, there are things we regularly need, yet cannot see.
· The things I have mentioned are of the temporal world, what of the spiritual world?
· We cannot see the spirit.
· We also most certainly cannot see our salvation.
Both of these invisible things are absolutely critical to our eternal destination. So, why don’t we go after the things we cannot see, instead of the things that we can see? In my experience it can be boiled down to one word, faith.
Today, as we study this scripture, my hope is that we learn a lesson that others have learned, and “Actively look for something that matters.”
I. We must have an active pursuit of the lord (Matthew 9:27)
A. These men followed (pursued) Jesus.
B. The definition of pursue is: seek to attain or accomplish (a goal) over a long period;
follow (someone or something) in order to catch or attack them.
C. We can see this was no half-hearted attempt as we imagine two emotional blind men calling and reaching out for something that could heal them.
D. Erring in this world can make us as blind as the men in this account, but scripture gives us a way to see again (1Timothy 6:10-11).
II. We must have an active partaking with the lord (Matthew 9:28-29)
A. These blind men had expressed their faith and confess this to Jesus.
B. These men, by the grace of God, were able to be healed by Jesus after a life of suffering.
C. We are no less important to God and need to take these opportunities to endure in our suffering also (2 Timothy 2:3).
D. Our suffering may never end here on earth and that is an unfortunate truth, but these blind men have shown us how to focus on what is eternal, by blocking out the world! (Col. 3:2)
III. We must have an active praise of the lord (Matthew 9:30-31)
A. These two men, with absolute faith, searched for someone they could not see in order to be healed.
B. They left completely changed and praised God for it! (Heb. 13:15)
C. We too can be change completely if we allow our faith to lead us to Christ.
Conclusion-
Our everyday lives can easily obstruct our view of God if we allow it. Today, if anything has blinded you from praising God, we have our example and our call, look up!
I challenge you… PURSUE JESUS…PARTAKE WITH JESUS… and with your last breath PRAISE JESUS.
As we close this, I must stress this...WE MUST “Actively look for something that matters!”
