Curiosity

Moses’ first response to the burning bush was curiosity. As he led the flock, beyond the wilderness, he came to mount Horeb and there he saw the burning bush. Exodus 3:3 (NRSV)
3 Then Moses said, “I must turn aside and look at this great sight, and see why the bush is not burned up.” Curiosity brought Moses to the Angel of the Lord, curiosity will bring us to our knees, curiosity is often times the bait that brings the fish to be caught. The desire to know more about this thing Moses cannot explain. God works beyond the laws of physics and so we look deeper. Doctors cannot explain why a patient with a cancer that will take their lives, finds healing and new life. Rekindle Lord! Rekindle!
We might ask, why did Moses need rekindled? Perhaps we could look at it as reset. Moses as we know was special at birth and yet his time had not come yet. Moses had a lifetime of experiences to experience. Moses was in search of a way of life after killing the Egyptian.
God has made each one of us special and yet at some point we need to hear from God and reset our lives to God’s needs and not our own. Moses was running from his previous life as a politician in the Egyptian hierarchy. He was the Pharaohs daughter’s son, by adoption of course. But Moses felt a kindred spirit with the Hebrew; he felt compassion for the Hebrew people who were being oppressed. Rekindle us o Lord, Rekindle us! We also feel something deep inside drawing us to God. Rekindle us , Rekindle us!
When God sees you move towards Him, Exodus 3:4 (NRSV)
4 When the Lord saw that he had turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” We are activated by curiosity, He is activated by our glance. So, Moses is out with the herd just minding his own business, perhaps pondering life, how he had spent so many years serving his soon to be father-in-law; life has a way of making us ponder things doesn’t it. Perhaps Moses thinks, dude, it has been a long journey just to find a wife. I say dude simply because Savannah says dude all the time. So, lets ponder about your life. Maybe you are a student in grade school, college, or working day in and day out to supply the needs of your family. You ponder about the meaning of it all, is there a higher calling for me? Throughout my educational days, teachers were always speaking of vocation, at least throughout Seminary days. Vocation is the deep place within that completes us. Vocation is your call. If you are curious, God will turn towards you and direct your paths.
Exodus 3:6 (NRSV)
6 He said further, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God. Has God introduced himself to you through your curiosity? Listen to the next thoughts of God. Exodus 3:7 (NRSV)
7 Then the Lord said, “I have observed the misery of my people who are in Egypt; I have heard their cry on account of their taskmasters. Indeed, I know their sufferings, Moses hears from God in such a special way. God speaks to him about the troubles that the Hebrew people are suffering. Is this possibly an option for you as you get curious. As you make meals for the homeless, as you ________. God wants you to help him to deliver His people out of bondage, sickness, poverty, and hunger. Will you be curious enough to ponder what it is God is calling you to? Exodus 3:8 (NRSV)
8 and I have come down to deliver them from the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land to a good and broad land, a land flowing with milk and honey, to the country of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. God is sending, we are sending people, to be the hands and feet of God into a hurting land. Exodus 3:10 (NRSV)
10 So come, I will send you to Pharaoh to bring my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.” You know what the answer to God has always been, for the most part?Exodus 3:11 (NRSV)
11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” Why does Moses and so many others proclaim their ineffectiveness to serve? Because we look at the impossibilities, when God looks at the possibilities.
God’s answer will always be the response that He gave to Moses. Exodus 3:12 (NRSV)
12 He said, “I will be with you; and this shall be the sign for you that it is I who sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall worship God on this mountain.” I AM WHO I AM.” Rekindle us O God
Exodus 3:15 (NRSV)
15 God also said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the Israelites, ‘The Lord, the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you’:
This is my name forever,
and this my title for all generations. Rekindle us , Rekindle us O God!
