If you have your copy of God's word. And I hope you do I'd like for you to turn to Luke chapter 19.

Cruise if you would and I asked you to place the elements of on that table right there. Thank you. Luke chapter 19. Thank you.

Well, let me say good morning. Play to be with you I missed you last week, and I'm looking forward to the text today. Luke chapter 19, let's let's start in verse 28 and if you would I would ask you out of respect to stand for the reading of God's word. Luke chapter 19 starting in verse 28

when he had said these things he went on ahead going up to Jerusalem as he approached approached bethphage and Bethany at the place called the Mount of Olives. He sent two of the disciple and said going to the Village ahead of you as you enter it you will find a Colt tied there on which no one has ever sat untied and bring it if anyone ask you why are you in tying? It say this the Lord needs it. So those who were sent left and found it just as he had told them as they were untying the Colt its own owner said to them. Why are you in time to cold? The Lord needs it? They said then they brought it to Jesus and after throwing their clothes on the cult. They helped Jesus get on it as he was going along. They were spreading their clothes on the road. Now, they came near the path down the Mount of Olives in the whole crowd of the disciples begin to praise God. Joyfully with a loud voice for all the Miracles. They had seen blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord peace in heaven and glory in the highest Heaven some of the Pharisees from the crowd told him teacher rebuke your disciples. He answered I tell you if they were to keep silent. The stones will cry out. As he approached and saw the city he went for it saying if you knew this day, what would bring you peace? But now it's hidden from prize for the days. We'll come on you when your enemies will build a barricade around you surround you and him you in on every side they will crush you and your children among you to the ground and they will not leave one stone on another in your mitt because you did not recognize the time when God visited you.

the next day He went into the temple and began to throw out those who are selling and he said it is written my house will be a House of Prayer. But you have made it a den of Thieves every day. He was teaching in the temple the chief priests the scribes in the leaders of the people were looking for a way to kill him, but they could not find a way to do it because all the people were captivated by what they hurt. Let's pray father. Now I ask you by your spirit.

torrontes truce Upon Our Hearts today

in your son's name. Amen you maybe season?

May you might be wondering why I requested cruise to go back and get that. because you I have the tendency to wander with your eyes. Amen. And if you are going to look around during the sermon, I want you to see. the bread and the wine of the Lord's Supper

not as we think about the end of Luke 19 and the Sunday known as what? Palm Sunday, right 20/20 been a difficult year has it not I mean who celebrates Palm Sunday in August? Well, here we are.

As we read our text today, we would come to the end of 19. And this is the Sunday that we know is Palm Sunday and we can see that in our study of Luke. We have been working up to this point. Haven't we? Everything has been working up to this point right here? Let's remember though that this journey to Jerusalem began long before chapter 19. Can you say Amen to that? This journey began long before the travel log that that Luke records from chapter 9 to 19. Those last few months that Jesus spent with his disciples teaching them. It started long before that this journey to Jerusalem started long before the three years of his public Ministry, but the journey to Jerusalem started long before his baptism ever happened the journey to Jerusalem started long before he went into the Wilderness tempted by the devil the journey to Jerusalem started long before is a twelve-year-old boy. He's set in the temple and Todd and Amaze everyone who hurt him. This journey to Jerusalem started before the wise men were informed of his birth. This journey to Jerusalem was before Mary was born this journey to Jerusalem started long before the prophet ever prophesied this journey to Jerusalem started long before the priests ever offered a single sacrifice this journey to Jerusalem started long before the Kings of Israel trained over. Israel

This journey to Jerusalem started long before the flood. all beloved this journey to Jerusalem started long before the fall.

All of eternity past was coming to this point and here we are the climax of The Great Crescendo of time. It's Sunday. The final week of the Earthly life of our King Jesus. In about a hundred and twenty hours Nails will be ran through his hands and his feet as they nail him to a tree and Luke 4 Chords for the office some 20 years after the destruction of Jerusalem after Jerusalem have been labeled by the Romans. Luke record this grand entrance that Jesus makes Into The Very place that he will be executed and it's here in our text this morning that God the spirit shines the light on the Sun.

And we see this. Christ is sufficient.

Look with me in our texts. Will hang the narrative off of three shifts 3 scenes under three headings. The first is this. craft is King. Notice with me and verse 28 when he is said these things what did he say? Well, if you go back and start and verse 11 2 verse 27 you remember the parable of the ten Minas don't you? Remember the man that nobleman goes off and then he comes back now as King Motif is King idea after he had said these things he went on ahead going. Up to Jerusalem. I want you to understand something that Jesus goes before the disciples on his way to Jerusalem. They have no idea what awaits them in Jerusalem, but Jesus knows and he goes full head on into Jerusalem knowing that he will be killed as he approached at least two towns he to Villages Bethpage and and Bethany at the place called what the Mount of Olives

He sent two of his disciples on the head of it. I don't want you to get yourself all tore up about what is going on here with these two disciples. What I do want you to remember though is our Old Testament reading and David weeps as he climbs the Mount of Olives.

now Jesus is going up the Mount of Olives and what did he do? He sends two disciples. Was it with John and Peter? I don't know the Bible doesn't tell us. What happens he sends them on ahead of him is what it tells us here, and he tells him to go into the village and get a cult now. Some people are going to get yourself all worked up and tied in knots over. This is this Jesus is for knowledge. Jesus knows that the Colts there and in his sovereignty he sends these two disciples on ahead to go and take care of it. Is this what Jesus is doing here or in his travels was did he make arrangements for this cold to be there at this time? And then and then here's the password big sis password is the Lord has need of it is this what's going on? Well, we don't know we don't know if this is a miracle that Jesus has performed that he has set this all up in his sovereignty core has he has a man just arrange these things. I don't let you have your own opinion. I have mine you can have yours and we won't talk about it. How about that? Don't get lost in the details here though, but what I do want you to see though, they are in verse 30. He tells them you going to the Village ahead of you as you enter it you'll find a cold. Circle that word there Colt tied there on which no one has ever sat. Now this is very important because it's a beast or an animal that no one has ever put a yoke on it set aside for Holy purposes. That's why the sacrifices didn't have a blemish. Write this is this is the Old Testament idea of something. Holy or something for royalty something for somebody important. It's one that has never been rode. It's one that's never been attached. This one has never been maintained of any type in this cold here. Is there a Waiting on Jesus? What kind of King is Jesus? What's the weather he is the Messianic King turn with me to Zechariah Chapter 9 or just write it there in the margin of your Bible. Right? Beside verse 30 Jesus is the Messianic Zechariah 9:9 we go back to the left in our Bibles to Zachariah almost of the New Testament 650 years before Jesus was even born and here is Zechariah. 9:9. Listen what it says Rejoice greatly daughters on shout in Triumph. Daughter Jerusalem. Look your king is coming to you. He is righteous and Victoria's humble and riding on a donkey on a colt before the dawn 650 years before this Prophet says Jerusalem. He's on your Messiah is coming. And here's what you need to look for. He is going to be coming in riding on a Colt you see this King. Jesus is a Messianic King. He's the long-awaited king and he was riding his secure for himself a cult that has never been spent on liberal Scholars will tell you that these stories don't line up because one of the gospel writers going to tell you that there were was a donkey and a colt Well, that makes sense. Doesn't it? If a cold is by itself in a crowd of people what's going to happen? I know you are act like you've never been around animals before.

I'll be nervous. So he's flipping out. Imagine thousands of people screaming and this this young cold is never been ridden before what they going to do.

If mommy comes it doesn't. And here we see Luke tells us that he rides on the cult that's never been ridden. But another gospel writer from another angle tells us that that mommy donkey was right beside it steady in the pace working its way. over the Mount of Olives with me, he's a Messianic. Can you be want to ask you? Why are you in time and say this award needs it? Play they went on they did that they went and then Todd the cold its owner said to them. Why are you in time to Colby and what they say is the password the Lord needs it.

You know if you really want to get technical. What is being said here is its Lord needs it? I listen to me. We have a Messianic King. But we have a king with all authority here. This is the owner of the cold he is he has right and rule over this Beast, right? Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no.

It's Lord. Who's Lord the owner of the colt and the cult? now listen if you're here today, and you're not a Christian this King King, Jesus is Lord Over All

I listen to a brief interview from years ago with John MacArthur on CNN. And there's this other guy on there. That was a Christian and and and Larry King if trying to put MacArthur in a corner and and he said what you're saying, is that what you believe if you believe what you say you believe in everyone else is wrong and MacArthur looking square and he said that's exactly right. It's only by Jesus and anything else is a false religion and look to the other guy, and he said that's not my call.

They can believe what they want. Who am I to say this? Who am I to say that?

They began to go back and forth and that guy looks at MacArthur he says. Right for you? Jesus might be that for you, but that doesn't mean he's that for everyone. All beloved listen to me closely. Whether you're a Believer or a blasphemer, Jesus is King. 15 he's a Messianic King. But but beloved, he's the king who rules if he rolls over the cult he rolls over the owner. Then they brought it to Jesus and after throwing your clothes on the cult. They helped Jesus get on it to csb lets me down again here. They set Jesus up on the cult. They have no idea what they're doing. They sit him up on there where they did they take their coats off and lay them over the back of this cold and then they take Jesus to him up on there. They put him on their Jesus never puts himself in the place of honor. Does he?

No. Commodore The Humble King

U&I they wouldn't get the donkey over the hill and you and I would be running at a dead run trying to get on its back. So people could praise us now you act like you wouldn't do that, but I can tell in your eyes. because it in mind to everybody likes to be bragged on. Can I get a amen? But not this King. No, he's a Messianic King. He's a king of great Authority but he is a humble King. They put him up on this cold. Now we came near verse 37 the path down the Mount of Olives.

The last time we see the king going up the Mount of Olives. He's crying is heads covered and everyone is weeping but not this time. No, this is the greater David.

In the whole crowd the disciples begin to praise God. Joyfully with a loud voice for all the Miracles that they had seen. All the things that they had that Jesus had done all the Miracles. He performed this great crowd of disciples call out to him and praise God. Joyful.

Now you can say that they did it for the wrong reasons. That might be the truth.

But they did it nonetheless.

We have a Messianic Kane. We have a king with great Authority. We have a humble King. But this King Jesus look here. He is the rightful King and Psalm 118. Look what verse are gay says blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord peace in heaven and glory in the highest Evan. You see the other king he fled he fled trouble. King David it's the stars on the flag. Everyone. Everyone is looking for the the four King David. He's been he's fleeing he's running from his son. He's scared to death. He's going to be killed but not this King know. This is the rightful King. This is the king we're looking for. This is the king that doesn't run away from trouble. This is the king that runs right into trouble. There's a city waiting to kill him. And what does he do get they put him up on the cold and he goes straight headlong into the trouble. This is the king. This is the king were looking for this is the rightful King and all of the Kings and David and and Solomon and all the other king.

nothing more

and just not good enough. They were all sinners. But not this King. He's the rightful King the one we want to come up on the hill at in 2nd Samuel 15 to 1. We want to come and take the throne to one. We want to stand up and be a man.

Oh, he's the rightful King. Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord and then what happens? Well the Pharisees start barking. I don't like it.

Noticed of these Pharisees were inside the crowd. gyms that

and he says the Pharisees rebuke him. They said teacher rebuke your disciples. He answered I tell you if you were to keep silent. The stones would cry out.

Our beloved not only is he a Messianic king of king of authorities a humble King either rightful King, but he is a worthy King. He does not stop the praise of the people you ever talk to someone that doesn't believe Jesus Is God take him right here. They're praising him. And he does not stop them.

He's a worthy King and he says this if Humanity doesn't creation wheel Remember Romans 8 creation groans is affected. Everything in creation is affected your heart of the effect of your emotion is affected. Your will is affected the world is affected the rocks in the grass in the trees. This great fall has everything. All beloved but one day all of creation Now groaning will one day sing his praises. He's the word the king. Well, that's Point. Number one. Jesus is the king.

Look with name verse 41.

Thinking about the sufficiency of Christ. Listen. Jesus is King. but Jesus as prophet look as he approached and saw the city. Jesus gets up on top of the Mount of Olives. He starts to come down and there he looks out over all the city yesterday. I took a a long walk. I ran some but I want more than Iran. And I made my way from my house down by the funeral home down 2565 and up to Walmart. Now you all act like you don't know where Walmart's at. You frequent Walmart, don't you and it's up there that I'll turned around and looked and there that Valley was. and I thought I wonder what it was like for him to be on top of that amount of olives on that colt all those people chanting and there. He looks at the city of Jerusalem.

What does he do?

He went for it.

Do you remember the other time that Jesus weeps John 11:35 is the verse every wants to memorize Jesus at the at the tomb of Lazarus. What does it say? Jesus wept?

And I said, oh how much he loved him. Ellis

Jesus this king is also the prophet and they're on the top of the Mount of Olives. He looks down and he sees the city of Jerusalem.

And he waits.

He weeps because they're lost.

He weeps because as the prophet he knows what's coming.

What somebody says if you knew this day? What would bring you peace? What would bring Jerusalem? Peace? The only thing that will bring any one piece and it's cheese. Yeah, we talked about world. Peace. We can we watch the news and we we see all the fighting and terrorism and all these things going on. No amount of Reform or rehab will fix these things. No amount of Education will fix these things. There's only one who will fix it and his name is Jesus. I'm here. He says if you knew this day, what would bring you peace as he waits? but now it's hidden from your eyes. Why is it hidden from their eyes church because they've rejected him.

I'll listen. Some of you here have come here and come here and come here and come here and come here and come here and come here and you've rejected Jesus and your heart is cold and indifferent at one time when I would speak of the Gospel message about Jesus came and he live the life. You couldn't and then he dies in your place. If your heart was moved and it was stirred and pan. You should have come forward and bow Journey. You should have followed him for the rest of your life. You should have been baptized. You should have showed the world. That's the 15 this Prophet is your only hope in life and death, but now you've let it go.

It's hidden from your eyes.

How old is prophet?

this prophet begin to prophesy. Listen what he says for the days will come on you when your enemies will build a barricade around you surround you and him you in on every side they will crush you and they will crush your children. Do not leave one stone. on another in your mitts and here's the reason why let me tell you first what happens fast forward to just a few years a d70.

There's a great battle. Out of their own Rebellion now. Listen what listen what happens? the Israelites Jerusalem Belize but God wants them to raise themselves up at God is doing this there blame it on God's most things that are wrong. people blame on God God told me to leave the church.

Chapter and verse please. Anytime somebody doesn't want to do something. They'll say where God told me. I will get off at that's for another day Say Amen.

They said God told them God was God was moving in them, too. To revolt against the Romans and what happens? The Romans attack actually, what they do is they build barricades. Just what Jesus says now listen. They surrounded the city. And I him them in on every side and do you know what happened? The people in Jerusalem began to starve to death.

Some historians say they started to eat in each other's bodies.

Men would raise themselves up and tell the crowds that they were the Messiah and people would follow them. And they would there be executed in killed. Rome would come in and level Jerusalem. It says that when the temple was levelled when the temples done away with the price of gold dropped in half

it is said that during this time. that 1 million Jews will be put to death. either by each other or by the Romans or starve to death

Do you see what the prophet does he prophesize about the future? He sees the future this profit from God sees what will happen and there he Weeps.

Because he sees what's going to happen.

We've seen Jesus is King. We've seen Jesus as prophet.

And lastly, I want you to see Jesus as priest.

And that was Monday that all happened on Monday. Or Sunday, I'm sorry. It all happened on Sunday. And now as we go into verse 45 we go into Monday. He went into the temple and began to throw out those who were selling John record for us that he's done this already once but it's got right back the way it was almost like your kids is room parents. Can I get a amen? Will you do you go in you straighten it up you work all day and you holler and you see all kinds of things. You shouldn't and you throw fits and everything is good and clean and you leave and guess what happens you come back a week later and the hamsters up on the the thing in the the things all messed up and you got chords everywhere and cell phone chargers are here and all this crazy stuff. Why because Mommy and Daddy wasn't there to keep it clean? Jesus early in his ministry is already cleaned out the temple. He's already cleared it. But now it's got right back the way it was. He went into the temple and he began to throw out those who are selling. This is what he does. He does what the priests should have done all along. The priest should never let this happen what was happening? Did you know that we're talking hundreds of thousands of animals killed for sacrifices on the week of Passover?

hundreds of thousands of animals killed

Court of the Gentiles were more people like me and you that weren't Jews could come in and worship Our Only Hope to come to to God they now littered this place and filled it up with with money changers and and and robbers thieves. Bring me to business out of this. Taking advantage of people and Jesus goes in this King this prophet he goes in as the brief and he cleans house and he said verse 46 is written. My house will be a House of Prayer. You've made it a den of Thieves.

And Luke brings us right back around to where you started.

How do you remember the twelve-year-old Jesus?

in the temple there sits the boy Jesus. Is there any child here that 12 years old?

11 Olivia would you stand up please? this child comes in and sits in this great magnificent structure And he sits down and he amazes everyone there. Maybe see this way.

And now this boy's a man.

The rightful priest comes in and cleans up his father's house member what Mary does she's like and he says you knew I was in my father's house. This is his father's house.

I can take a lot of things. I can't take someone being disrespectful to my parents.

And I'm a sinner.

All but how much more Jesus doesn't take it. That's he what does he do? He cleans up like a priest should do everyday. He was teaching in the temple for the chief priests and scribes in the leader of the people were looking for a way to kill him, but they could not find a way to do it because all the people were captivated by what they heard.

Isn't that simple? They want and killed the people are hanging on his every word.

So Christ is King price as profit Christ as priest. What is this mean for us? I think Luke reminds us hear that Christ is King and ask him is his prerogative to rule over us. Where you go you go because he wants you to go there what you do you do because he's the king. You are not your own.

The Christian wife is never a life of Independence. The Christian life is never a life of a self promotion. The Christian Life is a life lived under the lordship of a king. Inniskeen dictates what you and I do this King has put me here.

One day this team take me and put me somewhere else.

Do you think that you were created and then saved? So you could live your life. And have a good time.

Do you think all this talk about the kingdom? It's so you can go out here and live and do whatever you want with your time. It's not your time. It's not their cult. It's the king.

You like Chris. I don't like that. It rubs me the wrong way. American free

No, you're not.

your Christian

and you have a king.

You sing a song earlier. It Was Written in 1739 That's pretty good.

My gracious master and my God assist me to Proclaim to spread throughout all the Earth abroad the honors of your name. This King. is on Mission

and each one of us should be about the king's bill. Remember in 2nd Samuel 15. The one guy says wherever you go is where I'll go whatever it will if it means I'm going to be killed if it means I'm going to live I'm following you. You are my king. That's what it means to be a Christian. And so moms with kids at home over the next few weeks because schools not start and guess what you have an awesome opportunity to spend some time each day teaching your children about the king. I do not want to hear anyone in this church on social media complaining about staying home with her kids because it now is the time you are a child of the king. You are people of the Kingdom you are to teach your children about the king. He's giving you this opportunity to do that then five minutes a day in 10 minutes a day telling them about the king and how are we as subject serve him.

My first time of use to pack up your family and move to the Seminary and learn so you can prepare to go and be about the king's business. For some of you it's is taking who God has blessed us with here in this church spending three hours a week to the south of them and teach them and tell them and show them how how what does mean to be a Christian what it means to work with your hands. Not your time. For some of you it's going to mean leaving here and going and helping another church for some of you means leaving here and going and planning a church for some of you being faithful to the king is to start a small group for some of you is going to be working in the nursery. This is how we honor the king but yours in the key not only rules over us as king but he also protects us as his subjects.

With some of John Calvin said we may patiently pass through this life with its misery cold contempt reproaches and other troubles content with this one thing that our King will never leave us destitute that will provide for our needs until our Warfare ended. We are called to try up this King will protect you.

But what about Crysis prophet?

The Heidelberg Catechism says our chief prophet and teacher who is fully revealed to us the secret Council and will of God concerning our Redemption this prophet. crossed teaches us then we get to Luke chapter 24, you're going to learn about the disciples on the road to Emmaus. You know that story.

Let me read you one verse there.

Luke chapter 24

says this

verse 26 then beginning with Moses and all the prophets. He interpreted for them the things concerning himself and all the scriptures. How do you say 2nd Samuel 15 verse about David isn't?

But it's about Jesus. all of scripture is about Jesus now listen. Finsky is the prophet.

He has revealed to us the secret Council of God. He revealed something in our text today. Didn't he about himself about God we learn something about God today didn't lie. What did we learn? But God weeps for those who are unrepentant. and lost can I ask you a question?

When was the last time you ever shed a tear over a man woman boy or girl? That didn't know Jesus as Savior.

Christ is King Christ as prophet? And crossed is priest. We sing another hymn this morning from 1834. We're getting all of me lately. Praise My Soul the king of Heaven to his feet your tribute. Bring ransomed healed restored forgiven Evermore his Praises. Alleluia. Alleluia, praise the Everlasting King. How does this work? How can a simple man be ransomed? How can a simple man be healed? How can a sinful man be restored? How can a simple man be forgiven? He needs a priest.

And I listen I'm not going to Rome and getting one. Listen to Hebrew says for it's impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. every priest stands day after day ministering and offering the same sacrifices Time After Time never take away sins, but this man This King. Who is prophet? these priests After offering one sacrifice for sins forever sat down at the right hand of God. He is now waiting until his enemies are made his footstool for by one offering he has perfected forever those who are sanctified.

How can a man be ransomed healed restored forgiven only by the blood of the priest?

The London Baptist confession says Christ and Christ. Alone is fitted to be mediator between God and man. He is the prophet priest and King of the Church of God. Listen to me Christ is sufficient for all your needs.

This is the threefold office of Christ Prophet priest and King Christ and Christ Alone.
