Happy birthday to Tenten Miranda
It’s MONDAY the 10th of August
How’s your weekend?— What happens when you run to the Father?
Welcome back to the verse by verse study of the gospel of John
Last Thursday right here at “The Message” we investigated the events that took place when the high priest and the Sanhedrin questioned Jesus after his arrest
They found no basis to justify their intention to kill Jesus— Jesus is God and He is faultless— He do not have to justify himself to anyone
From that conversation between Annas [former high priest— father-in-law of Caiaphas], we learned two important things from the Lord Jesus that is super worthy for us to live by:
I WILL ALWAYS BE TRANSPARENT
I WILL ALWAYS TELL THE TRUTH
After Anna’s was done with the Lord, he sent Jesus to Caiaphas [the high priest at that time]— there was no report of that narrative perhaps because the author did not have access to anyone who witnessed the meeting between Caiaphas and our Lord
Then from Caiaphas, Jesus was brought to Pontius Pilate [Roman Governor]— Let’s see what happened— Open your Bible to JOHN 18:28-40— once you’re there type Amen!
SIN TO CONFESS, PROMISES TO CLAIM, ATTITUDE TO CHANGE, COMMANDS TO KEEP, EXAMPLES TO FOLLOW, PRAYERS TO PRAY, ERRORS TO AVOID, TRUTH TO BELIEVE, SOMETHING TO THANK GOD FOR
Read JOHN 18:28-40

BOOK

John 18:28–40 NIV
28 Then the Jewish leaders took Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor. By now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanness they did not enter the palace, because they wanted to be able to eat the Passover. 29 So Pilate came out to them and asked, “What charges are you bringing against this man?” 30 “If he were not a criminal,” they replied, “we would not have handed him over to you.” 31 Pilate said, “Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law.” “But we have no right to execute anyone,” they objected. 32 This took place to fulfill what Jesus had said about the kind of death he was going to die. 33 Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?” 34 “Is that your own idea,” Jesus asked, “or did others talk to you about me?” 35 “Am I a Jew?” Pilate replied. “Your own people and chief priests handed you over to me. What is it you have done?” 36 Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.” 37 “You are a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” 38 “What is truth?” retorted Pilate. With this he went out again to the Jews gathered there and said, “I find no basis for a charge against him. 39 But it is your custom for me to release to you one prisoner at the time of the Passover. Do you want me to release ‘the king of the Jews’?” 40 They shouted back, “No, not him! Give us Barabbas!” Now Barabbas had taken part in an uprising.
WHAT: Jesus was taken to Pontius Pilate [Appointed by Tiberius as the fifth prefect of Judea who served in that capacity from AD 26-36. He appears prominently in the trial narratives of the Gospels as the Roman Governor who authorized the crucifixion of our Lord Jesus]
WHEN: Early morning of the day when Jesus was crucified
WHO: Jewish Leaders, Pontius Pilate,
WHERE: Palace of the Roman Governor
WHY: For the Jewish Leaders— To convict and crucify Jesus— For Jesus— To fulfill what he prophesied in JOHN 12
HOW?— That’s what we’re going to look into right now!

LOOK

WHAT CHARGES ARE YOU BRINGING AGAINST THIS MAN?
Pilate asked the Jewish Leaders— they cannot say anything specific because they found nothing to justify the Lord’s crucifixion
They just simply said, “If he were not a criminal, we would not have handed him over to you.”
Pilate doesn’t want to be responsible— most likely because he was preventing a possible uprising
Take him and judge him by your own law— but they objected saying they don’t have the right to execute anyone— The Romans did not give that authority to the Jewish Leaders
All along, it was God who caused all things, look!
THIS TOOK PLACE TO FULFILL WHAT JESUS SAID ABOUT THE KIND OF DEATH HE WAS GOING TO DIE
After Jesus came to Jerusalem riding a donkey, he predicted His death— JOHN 12:32-33
Pilate went back inside the Palace, summoned Jesus and asked him— are you the king of the Jews?— Jesus replied...
MY KINGDOM IS NOT OF THIS WORLD
He replied in this manner to tell Pilate that the Jewish leaders who brought him to him were not his servants— in other words, if this world was his kingdom, they would have prevented his arrest— JOHN 8:23
Jesus added saying…
THE REASON I WAS BORN AND CAME INTO THE WORLD IS TO TESTIFY TO THE TRUTH
Jesus is the truth, the way and the life— JOHN 14:6
EVERYONE ON THE SIDE OF TRUTH LISTENS TO ME
Jesus said, my sheep listen to my voice, I know them and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand— JOHN 10:27-28
I FIND NO BASIS TO CHARGE AGAINST HIM
Expectedly, even Pilate did not find anything to prove the Lord’s guilt of anything
To be on the safe side of that situation, he then invoked to use the the Jewish custom of releasing a prisoner at the time of the passover
Pilate asked the people [the crowd not just the Jewish leaders]— do you want me to release the king of the Jews— but they shouted back saying...
NO, NOT HIM! GIVE US BARABBAS!
Barabbas is a criminal— Mark indicate that Barabbas killed someone during the a rebellion— [MARK 15:7]
The people preferred a murderer be released over Jesus
