Questions:

We are not looking for a formula - but we are looking for helpful ways to steer the conversation. Ill: A good race-car-driver knows what is coming ahead and is able to map out his trajectory in the race.

Converse Well.

We must do the same. These questions can help you to steer the conversation towards witnessing:

1. Do you have any kind of spiritual belief?

What answers have you recieved before to this question?

“Questions such as ‘Do you believe in God?’ or ‘Are you a Christian?’ can cause immediate defensiveness in a lost person.

God has created man with a deep sense of spiritual longing (Rom. 1) - by asking this question, we are appealing to these God-given desires without pinning people down.

This question sets the stage for talking about Jesus.

2. To you, who is Jesus?

Who is Jesus?

Who is Jesus, to you?

We want people to reveal on their own what is their relationship with Jesus.

Matt. 16:13-20 - The difference in response between followers and the lost.

3. Do you believe there are a heaven and a hell?

It is a bad idea to focus your entire witness on the consequences of rejecting Jesus. It is a worse idea to leave out the subject altogether.

Luke 16:27-31 - Making the afterlife vivid is not the thing that saves people; lost people will come to Jesus when they recognize who he is.

Asking Questions 2 and 3 allow you to see what people believe; let the Holy Spirit use these questions to turn their hearts to Jesus.

4. If you died right now where would you go?

Question 3 calls for an intellectual response - question 4 gets personal. People sober up when the topic turns to their condition.

Death is a trigger topic - almost taboo. Like the country song says “Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody want to go right now.”

It’s like the person who doesn’t believe in heaven and hell but then wants to go to heaven.

If someone answers “Heaven” then ask, “Why would God let you in to heaven?”

5. If what you believed were wrong, would you want to know?

If the answer is yes that opens the door for Scripture.

If the answer is no then that is a firm choice.

The author of this curriculum, William Fay, says that if people say no he often just stops talking and then they’ll be like, “well aren’t you going to tell me?” To which he’ll reply; no, you didn’t want to know. Rarely does a “no” stick.
