HOOK

How’s your weekend?— We had a great time! The entire service is super filled by the Holy Spirit— from the energetic worship, all the way to the Sermon and everything in between
We started a brand new series for August— Stop Running Away from God
How much longer are you going to run away from God?
From the book of Jonah we saw “What Happens When You Run Away from God”
It could cost you financially, physically, relationally and emotionally
If you miss that one— I highly suggest you get to it on YouTube or Facebook
Last week right here at “The Message”, we covered chapter 17, and today we will finish this chapter
Chapter 17 is purely prayers of the Lord Jesus— first He prayed for Him to be glorified, and then He prayed for his disciples, and today we will see how He prayed for “all” the believers
From the first two of this 3-part prayers of the Lord before getting arrested, we learned:
THE COMPLETION OF THE LORD’S WORK HAPPENED AT CRUCIFIXION
MY LORD’S GLORIFICATION TOOK PLACE AT HIS RESURRECTION
I WILL REMAIN IN HARMONY WITH MY FELLOW CHRISTIANS
JESUS IS MY PROTECTOR
I AM NOT OF THIS WORLD
Open your Bible to JOHN 17:20-26, once you get there, type Amen!
SIN TO CONFESS, PROMISES TO CLAIM, ATTITUDE TO CHANGE, COMMANDS TO KEEP, EXAMPLES TO FOLLOW, PRAYERS TO PRAY, ERRORS TO AVOID, TRUTH TO BELIEVE, SOMETHING TO THANK GOD FOR
Read JOHN 17:20-26

BOOK

John 17:20–26 NIV
20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one—23 I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. 24 “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. 25 “Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. 26 I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.”
This prayer wraps up the farewell discourse of the Lord— tomorrow when we start chapter 18, we will see what happened when he was arrested, when Peter denied the Lord and when Jesus was brought to Pilate

LOOK

I PRAY ALSO FOR THOSE WHO WILL BELIEVE IN ME THROUGH THEIR MESSAGE
Jesus did not only pray for His disciples— he prayed for all the believers at that time, today and those “who will” believe in Him in the future— future tense
Ok, we know that Jesus prayed for all of us— what did he pray for?
THAT ALL OF THEM MAY BE ONE
“May be one” [unity]. In this chapter alone, Jesus mentioned this in one way or another— this must be so important for Him that he had to repeat it (5) five times— quickly! [V. 11, 13, 21, 22 & 23]
Wow! In his prayer alone, Jesus had to repeat his prayers for our UNITY, 5 times!— Unity must be very important for the Lord to mention it repeatedly when He prayed to the Father!
But why is this very important for the Lord?— in the next point we will see why...
SO THAT THE WORLD MAY BELIEVE THAT YOU HAVE SENT ME
Again, here comes the phrase “so that” [upang sa ganun! Tapno iti kasta!]
So that through our unity, the world may believe that the Lord was actually sent by the Father
I HAVE GIVEN THEM THE GLORY THAT YOU GAVE ME
Again, what is glory? [Greek— DOXA]— Easton Bible Dictionary said it means honor and praise
THEN THE WORLD WILL KNOW THAT YOU SENT ME AND HAVE LOVED THEM
It is not just our unity that will make the world know that Jesus was indeed sent by the Father— but also our “love”
YOU LOVED ME BEFORE THE CREATION OF THE WORLD
A repetition of the Lord’s declaration that he was with the Father in the beginning
I HAVE MADE YOU KNOWN TO THEM, AND WILL CONTINUE TO MAKE YOU KNOWN
The Father is revealed through the Son
There is a couple of very important things that we should remember from this prayer of our Lord...

TOOK

OUR UNITY IS A TESTIMONY TO THE WORLD
OUR LOVE IS A WITNESS THAT JESUS WAS SENT BY THE FATHER
