What does it mean to be a disciple?

A disciple, understood as one intimately associated with his teacher; as a father-son relationship.

What is a disciple?

Someone who follows another person or another way of life and who submits himself to the discipline (teaching) of that leader or way.
A follower or pupil of a teacher, leader, or philosophy. One who accepts and assists in spreading the doctrines of another

Is discipline necessary?
