Colossians 3:16 ESV
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
“The Word of Christ
Is this the same as “The word of God?”
Probably refers to the words about Christ and those spoken by Him.
You might say, “But, the whole Bible is about Jesus.”
The difference is context.
We do not view scripture looking forward to the messiah (as in OT)
We have the view of scripture from a RISEN LORD.
This includes all of scripture.

The word of Christ should be centered in your heart.

Let … dwell
Enoikeō – To inhabit or live in.
“Dwell” – We are not talking about being accepted on Sunday morning and gone by 12:30!
Dwell means to RESIDE …. STAY
Let” – The word desires to reside in you
You shouldn’t have to WORK at becoming a Christian, you just need to let go of the world let the WORD OF CHRIST be at the center of your life.
The average Christian would probably experience tremendous spiritual growth if they would simply evaluate and rearrange their priorities to let the Word of Christ dwell in them, richly.
Richly – Raises the bar significantly.
Abundantly
“In an identifiably distinctive manner.”
To know you should be to know that the word of Christ dwells in you, richly.
Psalm 119:11 ESV
11 I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

The word of Christ should be centered in our growth.

Both teaching AND admonishing
Teaching
To impart skills or knowledge
Small group, life on life discipleship, etc.
Admonishing
To warn or counsel in terms of behavior.
Also could be small group, life on life..
To be done in ALL WISDOM.
Wisdom acquired from “The word of Christ”
What does scripture say about it.
But what about the value of “street smarts.”
Wisdom of this world might help you win the day, but God’s word will lead you to eternal life.
Secular wisdom has some value but it lacks kingdom value (unless it based on scripture)
Secular Application / Biblical Foundation
Before you go...
Notice both involve more than just you.
kind of assumes we understand this obligation.
Iron sharpens Iron
We build each other up BY DESIGN
We are to be involved in teaching and admonishing each other
We are to ensure they are both rooted in God’s word.

The word of Christ should be centered in our worship.

Yes worship is more than just singing … but here Paul is talking about singing.
Psalms - from scripture
Hymns & spiritual song - in accordance with scripture
All - With thanks giving to who Christ is.
We are thankful because of what scripture tells us about who Christ is and what He has done. We are encouraged by what He is yet to do.
