HOOK

For the past 2 days right here at “The Message”, we have looked into the accounts of what happened when the Lord turned his disciples grief into joy
And from it, we learned these principles:
JESUS WILL TURN MY GRIEF INTO JOY
NO ONE WILL TAKE AWAY MY JOY
GOD ANSWERS MY PRAYERS AND IT MAKES MY JOY COMPLETE
MY GOD KNOWS EVERYTHING [OMNISCIENT GOD]
I WILL STAND FIRM IN THE MIDST OF MY TROUBLES
MY LORD OVERCOME THE WORLD AND HE IS FIGHTING MY BATTLES FOR ME
The brought us to the completion of chapter 16— so today we will begin with chapter 17
Chapter 17 is when the Lord prayed for himself, for his disciples and for all believers— we are getting close to when he was arrested after Judas betrayed him
Each chapter of the Gospel of John are very interesting, and the following chapters will take us to the highlights of the life, arrest, trial, crucifixion, death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus, and his performance of his first miracle after he was raised from the dead by the Holy Spirit.
Open your Bible to JOHN 17:1-5, once you get there, type Amen!

BOOK

John 17:1–5 NIV
1 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. 3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4 I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.
Jesus prayed to be glorified. We’ll stop here for now— in the coming days we will see how he prayed for his disciples, and for all the believers

LOOK

GLORIFY [DOXAZO] YOUR SON, THAT YOUR SON MAY GLORIFY YOU
We always hear the word “glorify” what does it mean?— it is equivalent to a number of Hebrew and Greek words, for this particular verse, the root Greek word was “DOXAZO”— which means praise; glorify— to make glorious— to praise Him
The Lord asked the Father to make him glorious— and that took place after he was resurrected from the dead— that’s why we call his resurrected body, his “glorified body”
THAT HE MIGHT GIVE ETERNAL LIFE TO ALL THOSE YOU HAVE GIVEN HIM
Eternal life occurs through his death and resurrection— [ISAIAH 53:10]
And this life eternal was also mentioned early in the Gospel of John- [JOHN 1:4]
“To all you have given him”— again this supports the doctrine of election. That those who are with the Son are actually given [chosen] by the Father— [JOHN 10:29]
I HAVE BROUGHT YOU GLORY ON EARTH BY FINISHING THE WORK
How did Jesus brought glory to the Father?— by finishing the work
And what was that work?—
The teaching of his disciples about the Father’s plan for salvation
What it means to believe in him
God’s plan for eternal life
And how to proclaim the message of salvation
And that work was completed right before he breathed his last— [JOHN 19:30]
Another very important point that the Lord said in his prayers was...
THE GLORY I HAD WITH YOU BEFORE THE WORLD BEGAN
Here Jesus claimed that before everything— he was already with the Father— [JOHN 1:1-3]
Who was the “Word” that John referred to here? To completely understand this, you have to go to JOHN 1:14
From this prayer of the Lord we see 2 things— COMPLETION and GLORIFICATION

TOOK

THE COMPLETION OF THE LORD’S WORK HAPPENED AT CRUCIFIXION
MY LORD’S GLORIFICATION TOOK PLACE AT HIS RESURRECTION
