Context: Where does this fit in the Big Picture of God's Glory?

New Testament
Around 46-47 AD
Birth of Plutarch (Roman historian)

Overview: What's going on here?

Acts 13:1–3 CSB
1 Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen, a close friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. 2 As they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 Then after they had fasted, prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them off.
Prophets and Teachers:
Barnabas
Simeon the Black (that’s what “Niger” means here, Latin word for black)
Lucius from Cyrene (North Africa, same place Simon who carried the Cross was from Matt 27:32)
Manaen (from the household of the Herods)
Saul
God chose 2 of the 5.

Reflection: Why does this matter?

The Church glorifies God by sending the people with the Gospel OUT.

Expectations: What do we do about it?

Every Christian ought to go. Only stay after God tells you to stay.
And your parents aren’t God.
And your nice comfy house isn’t God.
And your lovely job isn’t God.
And your guns aren’t God.
And your girlfriend isn’t God.
And your potential isn’t God.
And your sporting future isn’t God.
And your country club isn’t God.
And your political advocacy isn’t God.
The church needs to *JOYFULLY* send out those who GO
LET THEM GO
Encourage them to go
Ask others to go
Support the ones who go
Welcome back and celebrate those who have gone
