The Good Shepherd - Pt. 2 John 10:22-42 * The Jews attempted to incriminate Jesus (22-24) John 5:25 25 "Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. 38 "He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, "From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'" * Jesus reasserted His claim to be the Good Shepherd (25-30) John 6:44 44 "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day. 1 Corinthians 2:14 14 But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. Ephesians 1:4-6 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love 5 He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. Romans 8:29-30 29 For those who He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; 30 and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified. John 1:29 29... "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! Romans 10:12-13 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; 13 for "Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved." 2 Corinthians 5:14-15 14 For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all, therefore all died; 15 and He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf. 1 Timothy 2:3-6 3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the the truth. 5 For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time. * The Jews attempted to murder Jesus (31-42) Our eternal security is not an excuse to presume on God's grace by continuing in our sin (2 Corinthians 13:5; 1 Peter 1:14-16) 2 Corinthians 13:5a 5 Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! 1 Peter 1:14-16 14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, 15 but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; 16 because it is written, "You shall be holy, for I am holy." Our eternal security guarantees our perseverance (Jude 24; Philippians 1:6) Jude 24 24 Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy. Philippians 1:6 6 For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. Our eternal security is not dependent on our hold of Christ, but on His hold of us. Once we are saved we will always remain saved because Jesus our Good Shepherd will keep us saved.
