Romans 15:5–6 NIV
May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Last Week Points
do not be proud or conceited
think properly of yourself per God’s eyes and a Father’s heart
associate with all
what we do personally is what we should do in church life
What unites us
Jesus Christ
reconciled man to God by the shedding of his blood
gave believers the Holy Spirit to empower our walk
we have a great encouragement and eternal hope
2. Same Attitude of Mind
Matthew 4:4 NIV
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
all of life is dependent on God’s word
no place for the philosophies of the world nor the traditions of men
let us learn the truths of Christ and apply then
Matthew 4:7 NIV
Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”
let us hold God to be God
give him the honour and respect due to him and him alone
Matthew 4:10 NIV
Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’”
if God is God then there are some consequences - good ones at that
we worship the Lord with all our might
we serve him only
which brings us to the purpose of liberty
3. Our Actions Leading to an Outcome
when we think the same then we are one
when we desire the same then we are one
when we do the will of Jesus then we are one
Liberty
coming together of all people who call Liberty home
Liberty is morning service people and afternoon service people and others in our community
we have the same attitude of mind as Jesus Christ
we are connected and united
Dogma and Doctrine
what we believe is dogma a fixed belief or set of beliefs that people are expected to accept without any doubts
what we say and do is our doctrine a belief or set of beliefs, especially political or religious ones, that are taught and accepted by a particular group
Dogma
dogma is a fixed set of beliefs that are absolutely true
The literal meaning of dogma in ancient Greek was "something that seems true."
a truth is that Jesus died for our sins
Jesus paid the price so that we can have eternal life
Doctrine
doctrine is the practices we do to reflect the truth that we believe
they will change over time and between churches
the danger lies when we promote them as irrefutable truths
when in fact they are just reflections of the God revealed truths
A New Era for Liberty
we started in 1995 as a small fellowship of people meeting in a home
when Kerrie and I joined the church in 1996 there were just 20 folks
our school started in 1999
when Kerrie and I stepped up to be the pastors of Liberty in 2003 there were 80 people
we now have over 150 people who call Liberty home
we have our school with brilliant facilities
we have a community action arm the Liberty Foodcare shop changing our Tamworth community
we have sponsored 3 Filipino workers in the gospel
we have two services of different traditions and practices yet we have the same attitude of mind
we worship our Lord Jesus
Going Forward
* Liberty will continue to preach the gospel truth as found in God
* Liberty will develop our reliance on the Spirit and on his giftings and inspiration
* we will reach out to all people, no matter whom, to declare Jesus is the only way to truth
* we will embrace each other of all cultures so that together we will be more whole
