Lazarus Is A Sleep

Lazarus is sick unto death
Jesus has waited 2 more days before he said lets go to Judea
the Disciples informed Jesus that the leaders in Jerusalem want to stone Him
Then in
John 11:11 AV
These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.
Jesus here is calling death sleep
What do we know about sleep
Harmless
restful
peaceful
Ecclesiastes 5:12 AV
The sleep of a labouring man is sweet, whether he eat little or much: but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.
is the best medicine
temporary
Jesus was glad of Lazarus’s death/sleep
John 11:15 AV
And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.
Why? Jesus knows what He is going to do
Jesus knows that a to be absent from this body is to be present with God in Heaven
Jesus knows that with a believer, death is but a shadow
Psalm 23:4 AV
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
On the cross, Jesus took our fear of death
On the cross, Jesus took the sting of death
1 Corinthians 15:51–57 AV
Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
On the cross, Jesus was separated from God, in the place of us (My God Why has thou forsaken me)
and Jesus is going to awaken Lazarus, from his sleep
and Jesus wanted them to increase in their faith

Let’s Go Die

Nothing increases your faith more than facing death
John 11:15 AV
And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.
then Thomas said
John 11:16 AV
Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellowdisciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.
Doubting Thomas
Pessimistic Thomas
I think Thomas here, was saying yes to Jesus, and no to self
we are entering a world that is increasingly hostile to Believers
and a choice has to be made
Jesus told us that they hate me, they will hate you
are we willing to say with Thomas “lets go and die with Him”

Die To Self

when we come to Jesus for salvation
are we not dying to self?
we come, giving up all notions that we can get there on our own
Paul said for me to live is Christ, and to die is gain
and said all he had gained, knowledge wise
positional
prestigious schools... is dung
we are to die to anything that takes God’s rightful place in our lives
lets take the Law test
The 10 Commandments
the law is our school teacher
it shows our areas of need
we say we are followers of Jesus, but do we?
Jesus said
John 14:15 AV
If ye love me, keep my commandments.
God has a life for us that is much more than the life we have now.. if.. we are truly following
Are you complaining about your life, job, things you have, place you live. are you never satisfied with life,
Are you always coveting someone else s -----
YOU ARE NOT PUTTING GOD FIRST
YOU ARE NOT DYING TO SELF
John 12:24–25 AV
Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
we do our best to make a good life for ourselves, but were pretty miserable
grumbling about everything
maybe it’s time we put Jesus first, and put ourselves to death
we I don’t think have much time left
the world as we know it is changing fast
life as we know it is changing daily
and if we are living for ourselves, we will be mighty disappointed, anyway
What adventure does Jesus want to lead you in?
And really, death is sleep, its good for you
sometimes we are like children fighting not to go to bead, but they are miserable and cranky
1 Corinthians 15:58 AV
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
