HOOK

Yesterday right here at “The Message” we saw the events that took place when they had dinner in honor of the Lord Jesus at Bethany
What struck us from that event was the words of Judas Iscariot— a bad example from him that we have learned to avoid was:
I WILL NOT EXPLOIT THE POOR FOR MY OWN GAIN
WE WILL NOT RUN OUT OF OPPORTUNITY TO HELP THE POOR
It is worthy to note that dinner took place on a Saturday— what happened the next day is what we now know as the “Palm Sunday”
Let’s altogether see what happens the day after that dinner when Mary anointed Jesus with her expensive perfume
Open your Bible to JOHN 12:12-19, and once you get there, you know what to do— type Amen!
CHARACTER, COMMAND, PROMISES, CONVICTIONS, EXAMPLES, CHALLENGES AND ENCOURAGEMENT
Read JOHN 12:12-19

BOOK

John 12:12–19 NIV
12 The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. 13 They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, “Hosanna!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Blessed is the king of Israel!” 14 Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, as it is written: 15 “Do not be afraid, Daughter Zion; see, your king is coming, seated on a donkey’s colt.” 16 At first his disciples did not understand all this. Only after Jesus was glorified did they realize that these things had been written about him and that these things had been done to him. 17 Now the crowd that was with him when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to spread the word. 18 Many people, because they had heard that he had performed this sign, went out to meet him. 19 So the Pharisees said to one another, “See, this is getting us nowhere. Look how the whole world has gone after him!”
WHAT: Jesus Comes to Jerusalem as King
WHEN: Palm Sunday
WHERE: Bethany to Jerusalem
WHO: Jesus, Disciples, a Great Crowd attending Passover in Jerusalem, Pharisees
WHY: To fulfill the final about prophecy Jesus
HOW: He rode a donkey as He enters Jerusalem

LOOK

THEY TOOK PALM BRANCHES, SHOUTING HOSANNA
That’s why to this day, we call it the Palm Sunday
Hosanna is a Hebrew expression meaning , “Help us” or “Save us”— developed into a liturgical expression of praise
JESUS FOUND A YOUNG DONKEY AND SAT ON IT
It is not that he just suddenly saw that donkey— ahead of time the Lord sent two of His disciples to get it [MATTHEW 21:1-4]
What does it represent?— He could have ridden a chariot [status symbol for power]— lowly donkey represents humility
YOUR KING IS COMING, SEATED ON A DONKEY’S COLT
This was prophesied around 520 years prior [ZECHARIAH 9:9]
CONTINUED TO SPREAD THE WORD
The crowd who witnessed the greatest miracle performed by Jesus continued to spread the word— and as a result of that..
MANY PEOPLE WENT OUT TO MEET HIM
Because those who witnessed what Jesus did testified and “spread the word”, many people believed in Him
LOOK HOW THE WHOLE WORLD HAS GONE AFTER HIM
The Pharisees are terrified! — Their hunger for power continue to prevent them from seeing what truly matter

TOOK

OUR SAVIOR JESUS IS THE FULFILLMENT OF OLD TESTAMENT PROPHECIES
I WILL CONTINUE TO SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT JESUS
POWER PREVENTS US FROM SEEING WHAT TRULY MATTER
