John 14:23 - "Jesus replied, Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them." What an invitation!

A Father Provides

People fret when they are not confident that God will provide for them. They may live as though God is no where. When we come under the Lordship of Christ, we will be able to rest in God's provision, just like a little kid does in his/her parents. A father provides, just like our Heavenly Father.

Matthew 6:33 - "But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you."

1 Timothy 5:8 - "But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever."

A Father Protects

It is natural for a family to look to the Father of the home to protect them in danger and in life. It is also true that we, the Family of God, look to our Heavenly Father for that same protection. In Psalm 5 David taught us to ask God for His protection.

Psalm 5:11 - "But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you."

A father can/should protect his family with wisdom and financial teaching. A father can protect his family members from much hardship and danger when he models and teaches his family good living and good financial practice. You may be in slavery to debt right now. Would that you had received and followed

wise guidance on how to use, spend, and invest money. Would that you had received and followed wise

guidance about what is wise and what is foolish. A father protects, just like our Heavenly Father.

Ecclesiastes 7:12 - "For the protection of wisdom is like the protection of money, and the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of him who has it."

A Father Pilots

I love that God the Father pilots us like a ship. When we cooperate with His commands, we safely sail to His intended port. Earthly fathers are to pilot our family on to our intended port. In the sea merchant world, a captain pilots his vessel until the ship nears a busy port. Then, a different local driver ferries out

and joins the vessel. This driver is called a "pilot." His/her purpose is to navigate the vessel through the intricacies of that port to the safety of the dock, and later, out to sea. God is our pilot, like our earthly fathers.

Proverb 3:5-6 - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths."

Imagine a crew who constantly questioned the intentions and competency of their pilot. There would be upheaval and confusion, fear and possible rebellion on board. Such is a person when we refuse to allow our Heavenly Father to Captain our life. Such is a family when they refuse to allow an earthly father to pilot them through to the end.

Proverb 22:6 - "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it."

Have you allowed your Heavenly Father to "train" you? Have you built confidence in Him to be the Captain of your soul? You may need to go back to Him, as a child would, and ask Him to "train" or "pilot" you. Train your children in the wisdom of God so that they will later know how to go to Him and receive Provision, Protection, and Piloting.
