Proverbs 3:1-6

Proverbs 3:1-6,

1 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: 2 For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. 3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: 4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. 5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

I.       Forget not my law. This is a condition, which we must meet.

A.    Let our hearts keep my commandments.

1.     Do we love God?

a)     What is the different between like and love.

2.     John 14:23, Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

3.     If we do, we will want to learn and do what God wants us to do.

4.     From this we get;

B.    Length of days and long life and peace shall be added to us.

1.     We can extend our lives here on earth.

II.     Let not mercy and truth forsake thee.

A.    Mercy can be translated “love”

1.     Love is giving and not taking.

B.    Bind them about our necks.

1.     Wear it like you would a chain around our necks.

a)     Something close and dear to us.

2.     A chain that is always there reminding you.

a)     Proverbs 1:9, For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.

C.    Write them upon the table of thine heart.

1.     We are to remember them to the point when we have a problem the scripture pops into our minds.

2.     They are to be so deep into our hearts that we will never forget them.

D.    And if we do this, God promises that we will find favor with God and men.

III.    Trust in the Lord with all thine heart.

A.    Lean not unto thine own understanding.

1.     I cannot stress this enough, don’t let your reasoning get into the way.

B.    In all thy ways acknowledge him.

1.     We can live without God's help.

a)     But we will not have true happiness.

2.     Only through God can we get all things done and have happiness, true happiness.

3.     We in our best day don’t have all the information to make the best decision.

4.     God on the other hand has all the resources at His disposal.

a)     He knows all things.

b)     He has power over all things.

c)     And He loves us with uncomprehending love.

d)     Romans 11:33-34,33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! 34 For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?

C.    And if we do all this, God will direct thy paths.

1.     We will have nothing to worry about, because God is in control.
