Galatians 4:21–31 CSB
21 Tell me, you who want to be under the law, don’t you hear the law? 22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by a slave and the other by a free woman. 23 But the one by the slave was born as a result of the flesh, while the one by the free woman was born through promise. 24 These things are being taken figuratively, for the women represent two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai and bears children into slavery—this is Hagar. 25 Now Hagar represents Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children. 26 But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother. 27 For it is written, Rejoice, childless woman, unable to give birth. Burst into song and shout, you who are not in labor, for the children of the desolate woman will be many, more numerous than those of the woman who has a husband. 28 Now you too, brothers and sisters, like Isaac, are children of promise. 29 But just as then the child born as a result of the flesh persecuted the one born as a result of the Spirit, so also now. 30 But what does the Scripture say? “Drive out the slave and her son, for the son of the slave will never be a coheir with the son of the free woman.” 31 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we are not children of a slave but of the free woman.

1. Fathers leave a legacy

Legacy: something transmitted by or received from an ancestor or predecessor or from the past;
You can be a legacy because you are of the same family
A person who is given special status because of a familial relationship to a member
The type of legacy you leave depends on the your choices

2. Your legacy is transmitted to future generations

Your good choices follow the generations after you
Those generations are blessed because of what you did
Succeeding generations can have it better or worse - you determine the outcome
Become a conduit of blessing
Since you accepted Christ as Lord and Savior, your children have an early start with Jesus
You are a child of the promise

3. Abraham’s legacy followed his children

In his journey to becoming the father of our faith, Abraham lacked faith
He told his wife to lie and say that she was just his sister, so that he would not be killed
Abraham lied to Abimelech king of Gerar
Abraham’s lie attached itself to Isaac
Isaac lied Abimelech about his wife for fear of losing his life
Genesis 26:1–9 NIV84
1 Now there was a famine in the land—besides the earlier famine of Abraham’s time—and Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines in Gerar. 2 The Lord appeared to Isaac and said, “Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land where I tell you to live. 3 Stay in this land for a while, and I will be with you and will bless you. For to you and your descendants I will give all these lands and will confirm the oath I swore to your father Abraham. 4 I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and will give them all these lands, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, 5 because Abraham obeyed me and kept my requirements, my commands, my decrees and my laws.” 6 So Isaac stayed in Gerar. 7 When the men of that place asked him about his wife, he said, “She is my sister,” because he was afraid to say, “She is my wife.” He thought, “The men of this place might kill me on account of Rebekah, because she is beautiful.” 8 When Isaac had been there a long time, Abimelech king of the Philistines looked down from a window and saw Isaac caressing his wife Rebekah. 9 So Abimelech summoned Isaac and said, “She is really your wife! Why did you say, ‘She is my sister’?” Isaac answered him, “Because I thought I might lose my life on account of her.”
Jacob lied to get the blessing
Jacob was lied to about his wife; Leah instead of Rachel
Sarah, Rebekah, and Rachel were all barren until God turned it around
Jacob’s sons lied about Joseph
That lie led to Joseph ending up in Egypt
Than a Pharaoh arose that did not know Joseph and he enslaved God’s children

4. We reap what we sow

Galatians 6:7 NIV84
7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
You are known by your fruit
Your legacy follows your dna
Your choices produced a legacy
Time to start repenting for the wrong

5. The legacy of the Promise continues

Become a promise bearer
Leave the slave mindset behind
You are not a slave
Do not act like a slave
Put away slavery attitudes
We just celebrated Juneteenth but the attitude continues
Repent and move forward
Stop being a victim
You are a Victor
Stop blaming others
Take responsibility for your progress
You are a legacy of the Promise
God has good plans for you
Don’t let the political narrative distract you from who and whose you are
