Defining Responsibility

Responsibility can be defined as “something that someone is required to do and is accountable for

It is present in every facet of society (family, school, workplace, etc.)

Re-examination becomes necessary because of our:

ATTITUDE - We are encouraged from the Bible to be :
sober (1 Pet 5:8)
circumspect (Eph 5:15)
AIM - God’s aim is for the church to be built up
Eph 2:19-22; 1 Pet 2:5 (Spiritual House)
Eph 4:13 (Mature man)

Every christian has “something that they are required to do and is accountable for”

Evangelism - Acts 8:3-4
Doing Good - Gal 6:10
Holy Living - 1 Pet 1:13-15

Israel’s Example (Nehemiah 3)

God’s Aim must remain our top priority, in Nehemiah’s case it was the wall and the lives of the people.

vs.1; 17; 28 Those who led were involved in the work - The high priest Eliashib led in service, so must leaders in the church today. (Ministers 2 Tim 4:6-8) (Elders Heb 13:17) (Teachers James 3:1).
vs. 5 Tekoite nobles “did not support the work of their masters” - There is the reality of people not doing what they should. How do we respond to that? (Matt 23:2-3; Php 1:17-21). Someone else’s idleness or reluctance to do God’s will does not absolve me from my responsibility.
vs. 8; 31-32 Goldsmiths, perfume makers, and merchants. There was something for everyone to do. Everyone had something to contribute to the labour. (Eph 4:16).
vs. 27 Tekoites are at it again. The Hebrew word ‘seni’ means second. (Acts 20:31) “night and day with tears”. [Lay everything out]

Jesus is our great example!

Do you need to re-examine your responsibility?

If you hear his word, harden not your heart. Believe and obey like those in Acts 2:38. Be baptised for the remission of your sins and be saved.
