HOLY SPIRIT

Part 4: Under The Influence of the Holy Spirit

Acts 2:1-41; Galatians 5:16-17; Ephesians 5:15-18

1.) God Wants You To Be Filled With The Holy Spirit.

John 16:7, “…It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.”

Acts 1:4-5, “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized you with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

Acts 1:8, “…you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you…”

Acts 2:12-16, “Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, ‘What does this mean?’ Some, however, made fun of them and said, ‘They have had too much wine.’ …Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd… ‘These men are not drunk, as you suppose… No this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel, ‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people…’”

Acts 2:38-39, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you… And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off – for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

2.) If You Live By The Power Of The Holy Spirit, You Won’t Live In Sin.

Galatians 5:16-17, “So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature…”

Romans 6:1-14, “Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? …our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin – because anyone who has died has been freed from sin… sin shall not be your master.”

3.) You Must Continually Remain Under The Spirit’s Influence.

Ephesians 5:15-18, “Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.”

“be filled” = plērousthe; to be filled and to keep on being filled
