Romans 5:1-2

Inventory of grace, 5:1-5

§ We have peace, v. 1

o Not a feeling--a condition

o It occurs in Romans three times

o It is harmony with God by salvation wrought by God

§ We have an introduction, v. 2a

§ We have a standing, v. 2b

o Based on union with Christ exclusively

o Discovered only His Word

o Unrelated to our feelings

o It is irrevocable

§ We have hope, v. 2c. Hope . . .

§ We have joy, v. 3a

§ We have knowledge, vv. 3b-5

Observations on peace

§ He does not say we have peace.

§ Peace is a relationship with God.

§ Once we have peace objectively, then we can have peace subjectively.

Observations on hope

§ Hope is not a pious wish; it is a guaranteed deposit.

§ Spiritual success and growth begets spiritual success and growth.

§ Christian response to pressure is positive never negative.

§ We all have a lot of growing to do.
