Announcements:

This Sunday, June 21st we will be launching a third Sunday morning worship option that we are calling the “Family Worship Experience.” This worship service will have fun elements for kids, relevant worships songs and a message from yourself truly. The goal of this service option is to allow more room at our early and late service, while creating a connection point for our kids. If you have a school age or preschool child, please bring them to this service. You’lol like it too.
We need volunteers to help on Sundays at our services with doors, cleaning and our welcome table. You can sign-up online at pineygrovebaptist.church.
Tonight as we bring our time to a close we want to pray together. If you have a request, please feel free to type it in the comment section on this feed.

What’s causing all this conflict?

James 4:1 ESV
What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you?
James is touching on not just a one time problem that existed among these believers, but a chronic problem. Notice, the plural form of “quarrels” and “fights.” These believers had more than just a little conflict. They had chronic conflict.
Would you say that the same exists in our world today?
True our conflict today is fueled by media and social platforms, but the fact that conflict is so much before us means that we have more than just a little problem. We have a chronic conflict problem.
So, back to the question - What’s causing all this conflict?
James in the following verses offers three causes for our conflict.

(1) Our Selfish Passions & Desires

James 4:1–3 ESV
What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.
???

(2) Our Friendship With The World

James 4:4–5 ESV
You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”?
???

(3) Our Pride

James 4:6 ESV
But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
???

How do we stop it?

(1) Get Your Heart & Life Right With God

James 4:7–10 ESV
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
???

(2) Get Your Heart & Life RIght With Your Neighbor

James 4:11–12 ESV
Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. The one who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?
