Exodus 34:1–9 CSB
1 The Lord said to Moses, “Cut two stone tablets like the first ones, and I will write on them the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke. 2 Be prepared by morning. Come up Mount Sinai in the morning and stand before me on the mountaintop. 3 No one may go up with you; in fact, no one should be seen anywhere on the mountain. Even the flocks and herds are not to graze in front of that mountain.” 4 Moses cut two stone tablets like the first ones. He got up early in the morning, and taking the two stone tablets in his hand, he climbed Mount Sinai, just as the Lord had commanded him. 5 The Lord came down in a cloud, stood with him there, and proclaimed his name, “the Lord.” 6 The Lord passed in front of him and proclaimed: The Lord—the Lord is a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and abounding in faithful love and truth, 7 maintaining faithful love to a thousand generations, forgiving iniquity, rebellion, and sin. But he will not leave the guilty unpunished, bringing the consequences of the fathers’ iniquity on the children and grandchildren to the third and fourth generation. 8 Moses immediately knelt low on the ground and worshiped. 9 Then he said, “My Lord, if I have indeed found favor with you, my Lord, please go with us (even though this is a stiff-necked people), forgive our iniquity and our sin, and accept us as your own possession.”

1. It is time for a generational reboot

Reboot: to start (something) anew : to refresh (something) by making a new start or creating a new version
The first tablets were broken by Moses because he was upset with the people (anger got the better of him)
Why Reboot?
The Benefits of rebooting your Computer
Flushes RAM – RAM stands for Random Access Memory and is your computer's main type of memory. ... RAM handles short-term tasks and data. Therefore, when you restart your computer, you flush out all the random, unimportant, and temporary data bogging down your deviceSystem is not running as smoothly as it should
“You look/act like your dad”
“You look/act like your mom”
Looking like an ancestor is not a bad thing
Imitating their bad choices or actions is a bad thing
If things are not going as God promised, then correct the choice
Time for a generational reboot
Correct the choice

2. Close doors the previous generations opened

From the beginning of time, God has always had a good plan for us
Adam and Eve made a wrong choice - they opened a door that needed to be closed
Jesus made sure that the door could be closed if it was ever opened again - repentance
God always blesses generations
Disobedience opened the door
Generational iniquities
Exodus 20:5–6 CSB
5 Do not bow in worship to them, and do not serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, bringing the consequences of the fathers’ iniquity on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me, 6 but showing faithful love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commands.
Consequences of the fathers’ iniquity
Iniquity: gross injustice, wickedness, a wicked act or thing
Racism is an iniquity because it is a willful choice
Racism against any person regardless of color is a willful choice
Iniquity is sin. Iniquity is also evil. Iniquity is sin that you enjoy
God wants to bless generations
Genesis 22:17–18 NIV84
17 I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, 18 and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.”
Time to reboot
We need to repent for our iniquity
Repent from your willful sin
Anger is a choice
Bad attitude is a choice
Racism is a choice
Destructive actions are a choice
Never repay evil with evil
Correct the choice

3. Evidence that curses are passing through your generation

Dt 28:15-68 contains a list of generational curses affecting people
Here a list of some of those curses:
Poverty
Hereditary disease
Divorce
Confusion
Child abuse
Domestic violence
Alcoholism
Drug addiction
Immorality
Adultery
Perversion
Depression
Suicide
Heart problems
Defeat
Tumors, festering rash, scabies from which there is no cure
Madness, blindness, and mental confusion
No success
You will be oppressed and robbed continually, and no one will help you
You will build a house and not live in it
You will not enjoy the fruit of your labor
Destructive attitude
If you are tired of this, then, correct the choice
If you don’t want generations after you to suffer, correct the choice
No one can help you until you correct the choice
Correct the choice

4. God is patient with us

God does not react as we do
He does not get angry as you and I get angry
God allows consequences to reach us
Anger leads to evil
Psalm 37:8 NIV84
8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil.
It is a good thing that God is slow to anger
That means we have opportunity to correct the choice
We are allowed “do overs”
If we repent, God is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us
2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV84
14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
If you are living, you have time to correct the choice
Isn’t the future of your children worth it?
You are a result of choices made by generations before you
You are a result of the choices your parents made, grandparents, great-grandparents, etc...
Your anger has consequences
Your actions have consequences
Your disobedience has consequences
Correct the choice

5. Our God is compassionate and gracious

God is not running out of patience
We are running out of time
God has enough compassion for generations
God’s grace is enough for generations
God is faithful in His love for us, giving us opportunity after opportunity
As long as you blame others for your condition you will not correct the choice
We have to take responsibility for where we are
It is not the system that got us here
The choices of our ancestors got us here
Sure, you didn’t choose to be born in that lineage but that is where you were born
It is time that you correct the choice
Your right choices will change the next generation for better
Your bad choices will perpetuate the miserable condition you may be in
Repaying evil with evil will only perpetuate the condition
Love covers a multitude of sins
Love will change the condition
God is Love - We must make correct choices
The problem in our country is a heart condition
Pride comes before destruction
There is pride at every level in our country
Correct the choice - repent
Correct the choice - obey God
Correct the choice - serve God
Correct the choice - live for God
